    Oakland Raiders

Help added: Anything the Raiders added on the field going into 2012 has to come in second to what they did in their front office and with the coaching staff. There's a new Green Bay influence -- Reggie McKenzie at general manager, Dennis Allen as the head coach -- and the addition of Greg Knapp as offensive coordinator could pay dividends as well. Knapp will bring with him a system similar to the one you see the Houston Texans run. Zone-blocking in the rushing attack, setting up play-action passes and easy high-low reads (take the deep route or dump off to the shorter on a roll-out) should make this offense more effective based on the personnel the Raiders have.

Questions that remain: Oakland added a few likely starters on defense with Philip Wheeler, Shawntae Spencer and Ron Bartell, but the linebacking corps remains a weakness, and the Raiders ask a lot of uber-safety Tyvon Branch. This defense could be middle-of-the-pack in 2012, but to be more than that, it needs much better play out of several guys. On offense, I expect the scheme to pay dividends and for Carson Palmer to be more comfortable, but if Darren McFadden isn't healthy, the Raiders lose serious punch. I think a huge question is whether the defense can get better, with Lamarr Houston potentially developing into a star. If it can't, better play from the offense might not show in the overall record.

Next year's help, now: Manti Te'o, ILB, Notre Dame
The Raiders have a pair of interior linebackers of recent draft vintage (Rolando McClain, Aaron Curry), neither of whom has played to the level at which he was taken. Te'o seems like a safe bet to reverse the trend.
...there you are. Nothing crazy; would LOVE to have Te'o though.

Well I agree with him about Knapp and the defense.

Middle of the road D? If we have a middle of the road D the Oakland Raiders will win the AFC West.

I have great respect for that man. That (expletive) runs hard, I mean harder than anybody I've ever seen

Absolutely!! I also think that one of the two rookie linebackers (Burris or Stupar) is going to emerge as a starter by the end of the year! They both seem to be turning heads in OTA's...

JMo Miles Burris has a good chance to win a starting LB job in training camp. Nathan Stupar probably won't but I expect him to come in and assume MLb position on passing downs(he very good at that).

The LB to watchout for is Kaelin Burnett who has a very good chance to surprise this year(he the one to watch)

Exactly. The D flat out being awful lost us 4 winnable games last year.

Buffalo, Denver #2, Detroit, and SD #2.

I too would be very happy with a middle of the pack defense for this coming year, that would be a huge improvement....monumental almost!
John Madden:They've got a ways to go. He was playing the game without a full deck. To be honest, they don’t have enough players. The cupboard was pretty bare. It would have been tough to do much more than what they did. If he’s going to do well, they gotta get a lot more … some teams need a quarterback or a running back, or a pass rusher … . The Raiders need a whole barrel of guys!

Miles Burris is hands down my FAVORITE draft pick of this year. The dude is just a flat out ball-seeking missile. I can imagine some 3-4 formations designed for him that we'll run that will make opposing quarterbacks/runningbacks lives hell.
