ALAMEDA -- With Denarius Moore resign his strained hamstring Wednesday, undrafted rookie receiver Rod Streater took his place in the first-team offense.
Coach Dennis Allen said the Raiders were interested in Streater during the "draft process" after his college career at Temple.
"I think he’s earned the right to get the reps," Allen said. "He’s done a nice job. He’s a young guy. He’s continuing to improve but he’s obviously caught our eye enough to think he’s earned the right to get a couple of first-team reps."
Allen was asked if it was Streater's hands or speed that's caught his attention.
"It’s a little bit of both," Allen said. "He’s caught the ball extremely well. He’s run very good routes. He knows how to get open. He’s been explosive as a receiver. Again, he’s still a young guy, he’s still learning, he’s still making those rookie mistakes, but from an athletic standpoint, from a skill set standpoint, he’s really impressive."
In two seasons at run-heavy Temple, Streater caught 49 passes for 882 yards and seven touchdowns. He has run a 4.46-second 40-yard time.
"I’m just trying to work hard," Streater said. "I think I’ve been doing pretty good running the routes, learning the playbook and everything. It’s just me getting out there every day trying to get better and improve, just trying to get better at the plays and everything."
Streater said he had no idea the Raiders were interested in him before he signed. A bigger surprise, though, was going from undrafted free agent to running with the first-team offense on the second day of mandatory minicamp.
"But that’s what you have to prepare for," he said. "Just continue to work hard and whenever your shot comes up you’ve just got to perform.
"I’m a hard worker. I work hard off and on the field. I feel like I’m very smart, I can learn the plays and wherever they need me at, I think I can play that position."

Streater went undrafted in the NFL draft, but quickly signed with the Raiders following the conclusion of the draft.
Streater spent the three days of the draft with his agent and Alfred State football coach Mick Caba in Michigan.
“The draft days were pretty crazy,” Streater said. “A lot of teams called me and said they wanted to draft me in the late rounds. I sat down with my agent during the draft and we wrote down all the teams I would like to play for just in case I did go as a free agent. After the draft ended, numerous teams were calling but then I already had made my choice.
“I chose the Raiders because my biggest concern was finding a team that loved me,” Streater added. “Prior to the draft, the GM and the wide receivers coach called my old coaches and said that I could play for them and they really liked me. I feel like I could really contribute the most for them.”
After the Raiders rookie mini-camp, first-year Raider head coach Dennis Allen praised Streater when asked what players have made a name for themselves.
“I know Streater, the wide receiver out of Temple, has done a nice job. He's been pretty impressive."
During his two years at Temple, Streater caught 49 passes for 882 yards and seven touchdowns. This follows a 2009 season at Alfred State where he caught 24 passes for 539 yards and six TDs. During his freshman season wearing the blue and gold, Streater played safety on the defensive side of the ball and picked up 20 tackles and picked off two passes.
Streater has been on the West Coast after signing his contract with the Raiders. He has participated in the rookie camp and a couple of weeks in OTAs. The team reports to training camp in late July and is scheduled to take on the Dallas Cowboys in their first preseason game on August 13th.

John Madden:They've got a ways to go. He was playing the game without a full deck. To be honest, they don’t have enough players. The cupboard was pretty bare. It would have been tough to do much more than what they did. If he’s going to do well, they gotta get a lot more … some teams need a quarterback or a running back, or a pass rusher … . The Raiders need a whole barrel of guys!

Our lack of draft picks must have provided a greater focus on finding top quality un-drafted free agents like Streater.

With Streater and Criner alone, in addition to what we had coming into this season, I'm very [VERY] excited.
Streater in the slot!
Undrafted Free Agent Wide Receiver Streater Running with Starters in Oakland | Bleacher Report
"His lanky 6'2" frame, ball skills and game in the air still stand on Streater's highlight reel:"
Sounds like the guy we drafted in the 5th last year as far as the ball skills.
We are crazy deep at WR, it will be interesting to see what guys emerge as 1,2, and 3 into the future. I think those 2 big time play makers like Greg Jennings and Donald Driver will be discovered soon. Whether they are on the roster now, or if we have to draft them. Reggie will get a stud WR core and a franchise QB, bank it.
Buh-Bye Murphy, chip and all!!
Nice......
Chaz Shillens remixed.....
just kidding guys....take it easy, let me put my homer filter back![]()
WR isn't my favorite position to discuss, but I like what they appear to be doing. It looks like put an abundance of bodies out there and let the cream rise to the top....
