System that was previous ran required a very strong coaching staff, especially a top level DB and DL coach; DC needed to have knowledge of how to manilpulate the offense in what formation the Raiders were running. That is, we are really running man, but it appears to be zone and vice versa. Like previously stated, with loose cannons as your DC and sub par supporting staff the weakness was exposed.

This year, there will be a culture shock with just some of the things we will probably run. Remember, Tarver is a student of both Nolan and Singletary. At some point Oakland will switch to a pure 3-4 in the future.

I think the D is much better than what it played last year.

For Huff's mouth, i hope he is able to to make some of these plays.. If not, Reggie will have no sympathy when he either trades him or cuts him.

    I doubt it.
    Good point!

I hope he DOES blow it up and looks like Ed Reed in the new system.

Thing is thou, I'm under the impression Ed Reed in our old system would have looked better then Huff. Well see in a few months...

Chris Carr & Fab Washington sure looked a hell'va lot better in the Raven's system then they did in Oakland. In the same way Aso looked a hell'va lot better in our system then he did with the Eagles so we will have to wait and see.
The better question is ‘what are the reasons I wouldn’t take this job.’ I mean, I’ll be here…yall won’t eat dinner tonight with all the reasons I have to take this job. Guys, this is where I came from. I’m back home now. I’m back home. - Reggie McKenzie

    Good point!

Don't entirely agree Carr and Fab looked "a hell'va lot better" but they did improve.

Interestingly enough McClain has taken a lot of flack for his play in the old scheme but quite a few people are willing to give Mr. Huff a pass.

Sure will be interesting to see IF/when we run the 3-4 how McClain preforms in that alignment.

I'm also eager to see if being in a less predictable system with more blitzing will free up Lamarr Houston. I think sacks are overrated as a stat when evaluating defensive linemen, but I'd still like to see more out of him.

Woodson is one of the best case studies for that too. Some of his improvement in GB can be attributed to maturity in my opinion, but I give most of the credit to the way they use his talents in their scheme. He was a great player for the most part in Oakland but he'll be in Canton because of how he played in Green Bay IMO.

So, essentially, Huff says Sapp was right. No surprise to most of us.

They should have hired Bill Romanowski as the Hunting Guide.

You could argue that Carr, and Washington were still young and developing into better talents when they left the Raiders. Also, there was a lot more talent around them in Baltimore. Not saying the Raiders scheme could compare to the Ravens over the past 15 years, but when you watch players enough, no matter what scheme they play in their true talent will show.

Nnamdi has played one way for 7-8 years and then moves into an entirely different system. Nnamdi has enough talent to adapt and get better in Philly. I don't think he's an all time great, but he is a hell of a player and he'll be fine in Philly.

I don't think it's his comments that anyone would or should have a problem with. We all know Davis micro managed the team from his desk this past decade... However, regardless of system Huff has had moments, but has not shown any signs that he would be a great player in in system. Back before '09 there was a lot of fans calling him a bust, and I was not one of them. I still don't think he's a bust, a bust is someone expected to be great and can't even compete enough to stay in the league, like Leaf or Jamarcus. Huff isn't a bust, but he hasn't lived up to the expectations of a 6th overall pick. The defense was outdated in 2002 yet Rod Woodson seemed to still be great even as old as he was. Sometimes it is just the player.
