Did the Raiders get their bad-boy, tough-guy image, reputation from L.A.?

Just wondering if anyone agrees or disagrees with this news article back from 2002(last time we made the playoffs), overall, did L.A. cause the Raiders and the fans to have negative stereotypes? or did the Raiders already have those negative stereotypes, reputation, image before they moved to L.A.? or did L.A. just increase it?
Is that how the Raiders got the negative stereotype for their fans being labeled thugs, gang-members, cholo's because of the Raiders years in L.A.? No offense to anyone please, i just want people's opinions, what their thoughts is on it.
Both articles are posted below, with the titles "Blame L.A. and Don't Tell Raider Fans"

Based on all of the old school Raider fans I've talked to, there's some definite truth to this. We were seen as a fan base similar to the Steelers. Oakland fans were seen as hard nosed and blue collar, than L.A. happened, and the Raiders began to be associated with street gangs. NWA sporting Raider gear did more to hurt the team than do it good. The Raiders are still trying to fight the "thug" image. Trask has been asking the NFL cameras to mostly show kids during pre-commercial fan shots. Personally, as a fan, I'm sick of the violent image we're stuck with.

You must be young. if you ever get a chance to watch the 1976 Raiders there you will find the image and history. You can find the 76 raiders on youtube. I believe it started the moment Al Davis came to the raiders

    we are the Oakland raiders

Its just our culture and history of brutal football and that attracted brutal fans who like the intense hard knock ways, And the Raiders grew to be who we are today .. The bad guys and and what makes it better is that were West Coast from the North and Souths roughest areas - RAIDERS

Are we talking about the team or the fans reputation? If its the team bad boy image then the Oakland Raiders had such a bad boy image that even the rough and tough Steelers of the 70s complained about how hard the Raiders played. If anything the Raiders lost part of their bad boy image in LA.

And as for fan base I didn't get to go to any games until the mid 90s when they came back and I am too young to know about the fans of the 70s but I do remember hearing stories about hells angels being part of the crowds for Raiders fans back in the 70s and early 80s.

    The answer is this:

They got the Gang bang, loser, wanna be tough guy, jumping someone 30-1, stealing, vandal, acting drunk and stupid internet thuggin, hubcap stealing, purse snatching image from L.A

They got their Tough, Bad-Boy, hit hard, hard nose, seek and destroy, party hard play hard, mean and nasty, gritty, blue collar, just down right badd ass to the bone image from Oakland.

There you have it, real true facts baby!!!

No it started rite here in oakland and the perception went with us to L.A. and stayed once we moved back. The badboy image has been with the raiders basically since al started runing things.

You must be really young, may I ask your age. I'm sure you have a copy of or access to the History of the Oakland Raiders. Please sit down and watch it, then watch it a couple of more times. When your finished go stand in the corner for a couple of hours than go to bed without dinner. j/k

No way, and to suggest that is a disrespect to great teams of the 70s. The Raiders were the Raiders way before the move to LA.

The Steelers sued the Oakland Raiders in court because Atkinson and Tatum kept *ucking up Lynn Swan's limp wristed azz. Their HC Chuck Knoll called our defense a bunch of thugs and cheapshotartist, (hence my screen name) talking about the kettle calling the skillet black. The Hell's Angels National Headquarters is in East Oakland, why can't they go to a home football game?
