That's not what I said, but yes.
I do not have faith that Jones can be a true RB in every sense of the word. I think he is a tremendous weapon, but he doesn't look like a guy that can carry the ball 20 times a game, plus he has a major deficiency in the area of pass blocking which means he can't be a 3rd down back. I certainly hope he proves me wrong and blossoms into a star, but right now I would take Hunter as a #2 over him any day. Goodson has the fumbling issue that has to scare everyone. I would take Hunter over him as well.
My point was that the 49ers have a plethora of solid young RB's and I bet at least one doesn't make the roster. If we could add one of these guys to the competition I think we would have an extremely solid corps of young RB's.
Side note... you shouldn't assume that because a player does not start for another team that he isn't better than what we have on the roster.
I assume nothing.
Go Raiders.

He doesn't have to be a 20 carry back. That's beauty of having all 3 back there. In fact DMC doesn't have to carry 20 times if pressed. But you could feasibly see DMC getting 20, while Jones & Goodson split another 20 on their own.
Lots of players had fumble issues early on so you can be taught or re-taught how to carry the ball. You cannot be taught speed and talent which Goodson has.
Additionally 2010 was the year that he earned the fumblitis label. So looking at the numbers that year the kid led the team in kick return yards and fumbled the ball 2 of his 6 there. Leaving really 4 fumbles in 150 touches carries/receptions (two of the four came in one especially poor game). So it's not like the kid puts the ball down every other time he touches it.
With Jones, Goodson, DMC and a Fullback that has hands and speed of a wide receiver I think we've got "plethora" of talent at this position. We've got too many holes elsewhere to worry about a position which should be a strength for us this year.
Which is why we picked up Goodson in the first place. But to be contrarian with you we shouldn't assume that the neighbors grass is greener as well.
I want whoever wins the battle in camp to be 2nd RB.
Jones for the fact that he is faster And has better hands...from what ive read in ota's Goodsons hands have looked Shakey on passing plays
The beauty would be having all three back there. But unfortunately DMAC has an injury history. Odds are, sometime during this season we will be without him. Leaving us Jones (more on Goodson below), who I believe cannot carry that heavy of a load.
I'm not proclaiming to be an expert on Goodson. I watched him a lot at A&M but not much since then. I was extremely happy when I read about this trade. He is a guy I can see being a lead back in a "RB by committee" if DMAC goes down for an extended amount of time. I agree fumbling can be corrected, but it's far better to never have had a fumbling problem. I didn't know those stats you presented above. They do make feel better about him.
But again, if DMAC goes down... Our cup may be over flowing but it is because DMAC has the talent to fill it to the brim. To your second point... I think you have to constantly worry about every position group. You constantly have to look at ways to improve your team. I think if you ever stop looking at EVERY option you are inviting disaster. My entire point with my original post was that there will be a high quality football player available and we may be able to improve our team.
I told him not to assume because he said something like "you want some other teams #4 or #5". I wasn't talking about "some teams" backup RB. I was talking about a specific player. I'm not assuming I'm not saying I want whoever is cut from whatever team across the league. But I do think if we could add Hunter we would really solidify the RB position even if DMAC goes down.
