Former Jets VP of college scouting Joey Clinkscales is leaving New York to take a prominent front-office position with the Oakland Raiders.

Everyone will be crying about Sanchez and ignoring Revis, Mangold, and all others he helped scout, book it.

Darnell Dockett speaking about Darren McFadden, the BEST running back in the NFLI have great respect for that man. That (expletive) runs hard, I mean harder than anybody I've ever seen
No scout in the league has the pull to make the calls on who gets drafted with the first round pick, that's the GM/Owners call 100% of the time. Tannenbaum has publicly admitted that Gholston was his call, and it's not like Jets scouts were the only one's to whiff on that pick, Gholston was in every mock top 10 there was that year. Many on this board wanted Gholston over DMac(not myself, I wanted McFadden badly that year), Vernon was an All-American, Big 10 Defensive player of the year, and played well when matched up against Jake Long in college. It's like blaming us for drafting Jamarcus. Every talent evaluator had Jamarcus as a top 10 pick, top QB overall and some teams like the Ravens had Russell as the #1 overall player that year. It just so happens that Jamarcus took the money and quit on us. I've blamed Al for a lot of bad decisions, but I've never been upset about drafting Jamarcus, he felt he had to take a shot at the QB and it didn't work out. The draft is a crapshoot, I give the Jets credit for many good selections like Mangold, Harris, and Revis.

Interesting hire, good hire. In the company of McKenzie, Herock, and some more of McKenzies guys he'll do fine. He wont make all the decision's sole, but rather in the company of McKenzie's guys. Which makes me feel as though this is a quality hire.
"Prominent front office position" -- I'm guessing that means Player/Personnel Director?
So a week ago didn't we think that Clinkscales and Herock were vying for the same job the head of scouting and now we hired both?
Who's doing what, who got the better position? Someone clarify please
AFC Championship 2 years in a row for the Jets and one off year. The GM and owner make the call on the #1 pick, and nobody is perfect when it comes to the draft. Our scouting department has had their bright moments but overall not too great. No play-offs for 10 years, a lot is on Al and his mismanagement, but I can not pour any tears for RM tearing this **** down. Proof is in the pudding. A few good finds is normal for a below average scouting department. Every squirrel eventually finds a nut. We have not been successful overall at drafting. We need depth not just a few names that panned out. We need wins, success. Some guy comes from a much more successful organization than ours and people need to just embrace it. RM knows what he wants and knows who he can work with. I am glad they have added this guy who many thought wouldn't. "He's better than that guy from the Jets." People not thinking too clearly, the Jets are one of the better ran organizations in the NFL. The Raider's are always in the bottom 5.....
Fu@* Yes Raiders Are becoming the Place to BE!!!
I like the hire. The scouting office just got younger and hopefully better able to support McKenzie and to complete his vision. It'll be interesting to see what job Clinksale actually get's and what his job description is.
I assume that once the top guys are hired, they'll start hiring some other scouts together with Reggie.
BTW, I heard that Raleigh McKenzie's hire is as a scout on the East coast, so all the people that were immediately jumping to the assumption that it was as Jon Kingdon's replacement can relax.
My understanding is that Shaun Herock is coming in as the head scout to replace Kingdon. You'll find that there will be quite a few moves by which people are brought in to positions that weren't previously occupied by the Raiders player personnel department. This is by and large due to Mr. Davis running the show. Wouldn't surprise me to see quite a few people be promoted internally or have a larger say of opinion, as seen with Mike Taylor's promotion to Director of Public Affairs. McKenzie's new era so far appears to be one of employing a single goal and delegating down responsibilities through the organization in order to achieve it. This relies on a heavy build of trust from top to bottom, making it clear as to why Reggie wants to bring in his "guys" to the department. The trust factor is probably why Mr. Davis took on so many jobs himself. I heard many stories by which Mr. Davis was almost paranoid at the leakage of information to the media or to other teams, a sign of distrust amongst his own front office.
