2012 Offensive Line Rankings - His Projections and Thoughts (via Evan Silva)

I don't completely agree with the ranking of us that low, but our depth is questionable (lack of experience in the pros) at best and our RT situation is a little worrisome. Hopefully Barksdale steps up at the RT spot and proves he can hold it down this year and in the future. I think Bergstrom will take the LG spot in camp, which will give us a good backup in Carlisle. Having a healthy DMC and a QB (Palmer) that is more comfortable with his receivers and the system, will make the OLs job easier too. Beyond those questions at depth and RT the lines ability to pick up the ZBS quickly will definitely affect their worth next season.

    27. Oakland Raiders

    LT: Jared Veldheer*
    LG: Cooper Carlisle*
    C: Stefen Wisniewski*
    RG: Mike Brisiel
    RT: Khalif Barnes*

Top reserves: T/G Joseph Barksdale, G/T Tony Bergstrom, OG Zach Hurd, T/G Ed Wang, C/G Alex Parsons.

Overview: Another team in offensive renovation, the Raiders have done away with former coach Hue Jackson's power-blocking scheme in favor of new OC Greg Knapp's zone system. This unit had better be ready to run block. In nine years as a coordinator, Knapp's offenses have finished in the league's top five in rushing attempts seven times. Veldheer and Wisniewski are athletic enough for the new scheme, and Brisiel has 47 starts in it. Carlisle has history as a zone-blocking guard. Oakland's problematic position projects to be right tackle, where the Raiders lack compelling alternatives to power blocker Barnes. Barksdale possesses heavy feet, and Oakland doesn't have a single reserve with starting experience. This unit looks solid from left tackle to right guard, but the fifth spot is a potentially large trouble area and there's no fallback option in place.

I think he is pretty spot on in his breakdown though. As he said we are pretty solid everywhere except RT. But I am not too sure that either one couldn't do it. After all Barnes has worked in the system before.

lol i dont understand Bush ran for 1,000. I think we finished in bottom 10 for sacks allowed. We upgrade at Center and Upgrade RG & Coop should be better in zone blocking. our LT should only get better (maybe probowl) & top of that we sign a 26 year old rookie should be challenging for a starting spot. Im confused on how were 27

I agree we had one of the top offensive lines last season in regards to sacks allowed, we upgraded the line and kept our best players on the line. I don't understand how we're ranked that low and most of these lineman have worked in a zone blocking system before...............................

Bergstrom played primarily right tackle at Utah, but worked at guard at the Senior Bowl and will begin his professional career there with the Raiders. "I think this is a versatile player," coach Dennis Allen said. "I think he can play offensive tackle. I think he can play offensive guard. I think he's the type of guy that fits the type of scheme we're going to run here, with some of our zone blocking stuff and his ability to get to the second level. "When you watch tape on him, you can tell this guy loves football."

Heavy feet at either tackle position is unacceptable in any scheme.. This is the first time I've read about Bark having heavy feet...
If true WTF are we doing drafting heavy footed Tackles, were we planning on putting a blocking TE next to him at all times, or maybe moving him to guard.

The Ranking is a little puzzling and in fact just down right wrong. we easily have a top 15 offensive line in the league.

However the analysis is spot on. That right tackle slot is a little bit of a mystery

what's new? our o-line sucks, our d line sucks, our whole team sucks, our whole organization sucks lol. When this team puts it all together and makes the playoffs they will get sucked off and everyone will claim they knew they were going in the right direction etc....

If Bergstrom really is coming in as a backup and does not challenge Carlisle at camp and waits in the wings for the full season. Carlisle himself makes a clumsy transition from the right side to the left side and his age suddenly offsets his familiarity with the ZBS.Barnes has an increase in cerebral rectumitis and continues to go flag happy on 3rd and short but cant be replaced by Barksdale's heavy moonboots. Veldheer doesnt improve which i seriously doubt and Wiz is not as effective at center as he was last year at guard. Brisiel looks just as average as Carlisle has the whole time he has been here. this it what it would take to be 27th imo. that is definitely a pessimistic stretch. i like our chances at oline minus Barnes but perhaps the ZBS will actually help Barnes and realizing he is basically in a contract year, he needs to play solid at minimum.

I dont like Cooper at LG. I dont know why we cant leave Wiz at LG. The leftside of our line was awesome last year. I wouldnt wanna mess with that. Wish we could sign a good Center and leave our Leftside the same.

Random but this got me thinking how far our line has come since 2006 with brooks and Walters getting killed... Who were the starters on that line if anyone remembers?? Might be all time worst

He has the Chiefs as the 4th best o-line and us rated 27th, that's pretty ridiculous.

    LT: Robert Gallery
    LG: Barry Sims
C: Think it was Jake Grove
    RG: Kevin Boothe
    RT: Langston Walker

Man that was a shocking line. We've come a long way since then.

I have great respect for that man. That (expletive) runs hard, I mean harder than anybody I've ever seen
