    The Al Davis Tribute Thread July 4, 1929 - October 8, 2011

I'm at a loss of words right now but maybe some of you would like to share your thoughts and stories on the man who brought us the team we all love and support. I will be placing Photos and Audio clips here...

    AUDIO:
I have and would like to share with you what I posted in PREMIUM:

This audio was captured in a small setting with about 10 people AFTER the Hue Jackson Press conference. There was only about 7-8 of us in the room. This was a special day to sit in a room and listen to Mr. Davis speak so candidly and open:

This exclusive audio was captured on 2/4/2009 after a Tom Cable Press Conference and features Al Davis speaking to a small group of Bay Area beat writers including myself and RaiderDee

I've lived my dream but I thought I would live my dream. I thought I would. But you got to go get it, you've got to fight for it and you got to dominate it... - Mr. Davis

I think the thing that stands out the most for me is that this is his life. We all have jobs and families and obviously Mr. Davis did as well, but is entire existence can be defined as the Raiders. I pray for his family, and I am also completely stunned. I hope our team goes out there this Sunday and pulls a 'Just win baby' for the greatest Raider of all time.

Truly a great innovator. One of the biggest influences on minorities and women working in the NFL.

I'm really speechless right now. Only thing I can say right now is:

RIP AL. The NFL, the Raiders and I will miss you!

To me, Mr. Davis personified everything about the Oakland Raiders. He did things his own way and was a pioneer in that sense. He brought down minority barriers. He played a major role in the NFL/AFL merger. He turned the Raiders into one of the most winningest organizations in professional sports. He won 3 Lombardi trophies. He's an icon in professional sports, there is no doubt about that.

A personal story I have related to him is when I visited Raiders hq in Alameda last year, I was taken past Mr. Davis' office and he joked to me "That's Mr. Davis' office. No one wants to end up in there, cuz if you do, it's bad news for you. Don't wanna piss off the boss haha."

May he be forever remembered for the greatness he achieved in both developing the NFL, developing the Raider organization and allowing millions of fans to appreciate the beautiful game as what it is today. Mr. Davis, may you forever rest in peace.
Do it once, do it right. Or don't do it at all.
    Just win, baby!
Al Davis, the greatest ever owner in professional sports

Anyone else let out a few tears when you heard this? Kind of weird since you never personally knew the guy, but he is someone I am sure most of can probably relate to in some manner. Doing things your own way.

I like how Hue Jackson gave Coach Davis the gameball week one. I consider the Raider Nation one big extended family. Rest in peace.

I met Al Davis at the Oakland ariport about 5 years ago. My wife and I were waiting for our flight, I was reading a newspaper, and when I looked up I saw him walking by. He was using a walker, and this was the first time that I had seen him doing so (he hadn't been shown using it in pictures or video yet). I watched him walk by and then decided that I had to meet him, so I caught up with him and introduced myself. I told him that I was a Raider fan from Colorado, and he replied "that's what we need, more Raiduh fans in Colorado." It was short and sweet, but it was a thrill and I will always remember it.

    RIP Al
There is only one thing I don't like about Colorado

Definitely a great person just passed away and it's sad for me because he brought me the sports team that I love. He did it his own way without him I probably wouldn't be into the NFL period. Since it was him who went against everyone and did what the hell he wanted to do that drove me to like the Raiders even more in the first place. He gave me a reason to study history rather than just looking at the logo and name. History translates to legacy and the legacy he left behind for me and all of us is one I will cherish for the rest of my life. R.I.P Al Davis. Loved every minute being a fan of your franchise.
