this is why i wasnt upset about the chuck D hire

the man teaches the game and thats what we needed, somebody that can actually tell these guys what they need to do, so that they dont have to think about it and just react

our D is going to take a major step forward this year

That and the D didn't change. Even McClain in his interview yesterday said the defense was the same so it was just a matter of being more comfortable this year.

Amazing. A new DC and still the same D as before? Nah that doesn't happen.

Hmmm.........well I gotta feeling our secondary is going to be the "hunted" all year. Something just tells me if we expect to win any games this season, it's gonna have to be in a shootout. I mean if a 5th round rookie like Moore is destroying these guys it's gonna be a LONG year for this pass defense.

same philosophy im sure, but i expect the D to be a lil different as far as blitzes and personnel/packages/alignments

something our last DC failed at

he cost us the jaguars game, thus the playoffs

We had the second best pass defense in the league last season on a yards per game basis. I know losing Nnamdi will hurt, but I'm not worried about Routt and CJ37. The lack of depth at corner is what worries me.

I just finished up watching a couple of Hues press conferences at raiders.com and I love his confidence, attitude and charisma. He's got me really stoked. I truly believe he's going to be a GREAT head coach. He's the right man for this job.

I would gladly give up the 2nd ranked pass D for a middle of the pack pass D that gives up fewer TDs and for an improved run D.

When he was here the first time we ran a very basic d with no movement & about the only blitz we ran was CWood off the corner. I wouldnt expect much different.
Lennon, Hendrix, Morrison, Cash, Cobain, Staley and now Dime, passed away, yet Justin Timberlake is still making albums.....It's not f#cking fair!!!!!

yea QB's will find ways to test LB and dime packages corners. its not the #1 corner you should worry about its 3 and 4th gonna get tested

I was responding to the comment that our secondary would be the hunted. We had the second best pass D, so I think we have a group that can defend the pass; i.e., not get hunted. It's just a matter of not losing our corners because we're thin there.

I think improved LB play will have the biggest impact on run defense. Front 7 play has to be the key to defending the run. We gave up too many big plays last season, I am not sure how that gets fixed. Hopefully just working with the same experienced group to tie up those loose ends will do the trick.

We scored 6th most points in the league last year and we were 20th in points allowed (The Colts and Eagles allowed more). If we can impact that points allowed number, in any way, that ought to mean more wins.

So, I agree, I would trade any stat for fewer points allowed.

Absolutely...we have a falsely inflated "pass D" ranking because teams are able to run on us...this has been argued about on this site for a while...anyone bragging about a 2nd ranked pass D is simply short sided with regards to what is going on down on the field.....I would also gladly trade the false accolade of 2nd ranked pass D for the solid and much more meaningful statistic of top 5 run-D......any day.

We stop the run, we win the division.
