yeaaa boyyy, nothing but love for campbell. VERY happy with the trade that brought him here.
This isn't the original articel I foun that never made it on to the sight due to my lack of attention to detail. First off let me say that I believe that Jason Campbell is better than alot of people believe. His situation in Washington sucke plain and simple. And some people tend to bring up his career in Washington to support their theory that he can be and is only average. They thought that he was the problem in Washington so they brought in the "Great McNabb", and look how that turne out. 5 different OC's in 6 years including our team. Never new what it was like to have a decent offensive line nor consistent WR's. Does such a team you know have similarities to this? I won't say he is Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady, Peyton Manning and etc....... He's JC. I'm not too sure how well any of those QB's would have faired under our teams conditions....... I don't believe it is as well as poeple tend to believe. So I'll reach........I believe we found our answer at QB as the Franchise QB......... of course we can agree to disagree. But that's how I see him once he can have atleast average pass protection and some better consistency aswell as continuity with our "very young" WR corp.......... well any and all input is very much welcomed.........what else do you have to do?
Oakland Raiders: Can Jason Campbell Handle Being the Face of the Franchise? | Bleacher Report
Most of you know of my support for Jason Campbell, the quarterback of the Oakland Raiders.
Ever since I heard Campbell would be a free agent with the Redskins (2009 offseason), I felt he should come to Oakland and compete with JaMarcus Russell for the starting job.
A year later my wish came true, as the Raiders acquired Campbell on day three of the 2010 NFL Draft.
The consensus was that he had all the tools to be great, but hesitancy and a dysfunctional Redskins organization led to him being only above average in his time there.
The Campbell trade led to the release of Russell. Campbell started the 2010 season rough, but in the last five games really turned it on, leading the Raiders to an 8-8 finish.
Now, the 2011 draft has come and gone and the Raiders did not draft a quarterback, which means they are rolling with Campbell as the starter this year. Go ahead and take a sigh of relief, Jason.
I think the fact that Campbell is the unquestioned starter in 2011 is great. He doesn't have nearly as much pressure as before and has had plenty of time to gel with the team.
With Hue Jackson returning and Al Saunders coming in as a familiar face, Campbell finally gets to run the same offense in consecutive years. As many of you might know, the guy had to endure tons of offensive coordinators throughout his career in Auburn and Washington.
Now that all gets to change, and Campbell is primed to lead the Raiders to the playoffs and become the face of the franchise.
That sounds a bit weird, doesn't it? The Raiders face has probably been Nnamdi Asomugha, and he's expected to leave. So that leaves the two veterans, Campbell and Richard Seymour, to fight for the spot.
Seymour and Campbell are comparable players—quiet guys who like to crack a joke or two, but get extremely serious on the field. It's traditional to let the quarterback be the face of the franchise, so I call upon Campbell to step into his role.
The question is, can he? He was never on a very good team in Washington, and this young Raiders team is probably the most talented he's been on. Campbell has been working with Raiders players under the radar, and let it be known on Twitter that a lot of them will be getting together very soon.
He's always been under pressure—being the face of the Oakland Raiders just slabs even more on his plate.
Campbell is primed for a Pro Bowl year. If he pulls it off and takes the Raiders deep into the playoffs, he'll be the unquestioned face of the franchise.
If not, then he could be on the hot seat in 2012.

While Campbell is not an elite QB I have no problem with him as our starting QB after the stiffs who started before we got him. I'd like to see what he could do playing behind a good offensive line.

Campbell=face of the franchise?Pro bowl??LOL......I,ll have a double of whatever someone spiked Ezra Ruiz Kool-aid with.
If we can get some good protection for Campbell which he has never had in his career I think alot of people will be damn happy with his production. When he is running behind our line like a chicken with his head cut off its pretty hard to produce numbers. Here's hoping we can get a good free agent offensive linemen or two when the lockout ends. Give Campbell time and he Will produce.
Lord knows I haven't been the biggest JC fan. However, I like what I saw from him at the end. My gut tells me there is a good chance he will flourish. Until then.....dare I say...."Time will tell".......nooooooooo
Good thread and positive. Definitely feel the QB position is the most settled since Gannon. Its nice to be concerned for other areas on the team for a while.
"The proudness is Rich Gannon wore the famed colors silver and black for six years. He gave us something that we needed, and we needed it badly. He gave us a worker." -Al Davis
"Who runs this drill? The quarterbacks! We run the show! We make the big money! This is our party! You've got to take control!" -Rich Gannon
Kool-aid has always been a little sweet for me. I take mine with a grain of salt.
With Hue Jackson on staff & being a former position coach by helping players like Johnson, Houshmanzadeh & Flacco jump start their career's. I've enough faith in Campbell to move forward with him as our franchise QB towards the future.
Washington - He was surrounded by veterans.
In Oakland - He's the veteran leading a group of young men.
On offensive side of ball whose older than Campbell (29) under contract -
R.Cartwright(31), M.Bennett(32), K.Boller(6 months) & C.Carlisle(33)
Like others have said, give him an o-line & let's hope two out of the five young WR's that we've come into their own & we can definitely move forward with Campbell into the future.
I still believe struggles will be in place because of a possible revamped o-line, but after this year I think we can begin to see Campbell take that next step while going into his early 30's. With Gannon we got production out of him while being 34years old in 1999. We got production with Plunkett @ age 33 in 1980. With Campbell - getting production @ 29/30 this year wouldn't be bad.
Another history lesson for all of you.....
Plunkett (Dec 5th - Same day of my grandpa's birthday & a day before my birthday), Gannon (12/20) & Campbell (12/31) were all born in December. December = The BEST month of the year.....
There are still too many problems with the team to single out Campbell. That is about all you can really say.
Let's try to be a little realistic here. Campbell is no where near pro bowl caliber. Anyone who follows the Raiders knows that Davis prefers to trade for his QB's not draft them, so it doesn't matter that the Raiders didn't draft a QB, Jason is far from safe as a starter on this team. And if I remember correctly, Hue benched him last year in the middle of a very sloth like performance.
Campbell is painfully slow in the pocket, and he doesn't complete deep passes downfield. You watch him make those longer throws and he just fires them up without touch. If I can see it so can Hue and Davis. He's just holding a position for our next QB
Carson Palmer?
An NFL QB is only as good as his receivers make him. Aaron Rogers benefits greatly from a group of receivers who have great hands and are good at adjusting to the defense and where the balls were thrown.
It's not like high school where the QB HAS to put the ball in the receivers hands just so they have a chance to catch a few of them.
Agree, Our WR group isn't that impressive, but, Campbell is missing the open guy downfield more often than he should. With his strong arm, that lack of touch is a supprising flaw in his game.
Look at it the other way, you mention Aaron Rodgers who IMO is the best QB in the NFL. How good would the Raider WR be with Aaron Rodgers throwing them the ball?
We need to give him a chance too. As great as manning Brady and brees and big Ben and Rodgers all are they had the same people teaching them and running their offense for years. Campbell has never had that.
Give Jason a chance. I think he can do it.
