Bush fractures thumb - Inside the Oakland Raiders - A look inside the world of the highly classified Oakland Raiders from the writers of Bay Area News Group
It turns out Jason Campbell wasn’t the only injury of concern in Saturday night’s 28-24 loss to the 49ers at the Coliseum.
Coach Tom Cable said Michael Bush sustained a thumb fracture and his status would not be determined until he saw a hand specialist Sunday.
As he was getting dressed, Bush needed teammate Michael Bennett to tie his shoes. He echoed Cable’s statements that he didn’t know if or how long he’d be out and he would know more Sunday.
As for Campbell, Cable said the stinger which caused him to leave the game shouldn’t prevent him from playing in the season opener.
Campbell said he wasn’t sure what his status was.
More to come later . . .

Oh lord, I hope he can just wrap that thumb up.
Damnit.... I just went on a rant about how bad McFadden is as a runner and now this... sh!t!
A fractured thumb takes a lot of time to heel and it hurts like a bitch. I injured my thumb last winter and it took until now to be OK. If you catch the ball just a little akwardly its like you re-injured it all over again.
I think he can run the ball with a good protection on his left hand, but it would be a great handicap to have a starting RB that cant catch out of the backfield. Another problem is blocking. He's probably not going to be able to use his left hand to do it and that makes it impossible.
Very bad news.
Does Michael Bennet make the team now just because of this? I believe he is the best pure runner left after Bush. Cartwright is more a jack of all trades but master of none type and McFadden well Ive already ranted on him tonight...
son of a bish, why i wish that was henderson's thumb instead
**** anyone know how long, 6-9 weeks is my guess, so if it really is broken looks like it will be week 3 at the earliest.
I really don't see why people are making a big deal out of this. Back when Favre was on the Packers, he'd break a receiver's finger every other throw. They tape it up and they're right back on the field. He has 2 1/2 weeks to let it heal up.
The thumb is different. You cant tape it to another finger and the bone is ticker then in the rest of the fingers. Its also the finger that has to produce and take on the most pressure. Its the most important finger you have on the hand.
In order to play he has to have a functionnal hand and with a reasonable chance that he wont re-injure it quickly (wich could happen very easely). He has to be able the pass protect and catch the ball. If he cant do this the offense just cannot work unfortunately.
But I sure hope your right. We shall see. I think worst case scenario he returns after the bye week. But for sure if the bone is really broken, to any extent, thats going to hurt all year long. Rest is the most important factor in that heeling process and he just cant afford it as a football player.
I mean he can tape it up pretty good, but there goes any good chance of him being a threat catching the ball or getting tosses until its fully healed.
At this point the run game has been really unimpressive anyway, I think it will be good for McFadden to get alot of reps the next couple of weeks and prepare for a tough titans defense.
