OK, this "NFL has to do something!" stuff continues to come up, so I will chime in:
The only time the league has intervened and taken over a franchise was when their checks started to bounce. In short, the team went broke first, which ain't happeninin this case, so the league won't do anything. Which is precisely the correct position, regardless of how you feel about Al Davis. So don't wait for the league to "save us."

So the job will continue to be filled by someone, and the league will continue to allow it to be filled without intervention. We may not approve of the choices, but there will be candidates. From somewhere. Only 32 slots available.

Wasn't Marge Schott banned from running day-to-day operations of the Reds? What about Steinbrenner? I know this is the NFL. I also know that the NFL fears Al Davis and his willingness to litigate. But I have to believe that the commissioner's office has some power to take control of a team in a deteriorating situation like this one.

Al made up his own story to try to get out of paying Kiffin. That is all that was. He tried to destroy Kiffins rep. It may have worked except EVERYONE knows Davis's history and that he is a loon. Kiffin will get a job easily because he built and almost finished building a dominate team within a year and four games with no support from his own owner. In fact that whole thing probably will help him get a job.
And yes that conference was a disgrace no matter if it is a new beginning. The disgrace was the absolute childish hatred displayed by a grown man who owns a business. |

Now taking the slant: Nfl Network was pretty darn fair with their analysis afterwards. ESPN was craddling Lane and taking his side like no questions asked. Sort of like Fox vs CNN you can just tell what side favors the other. ESPN waay to one side, NFL Net pretty balanced. |

And why would they step in this situation anyway? NFL coaches that don't win games get fired all the time, and even some that do win games get fired, Marty S. got fired few years ago after a 12-4 season. |

Hmmm.. Again a lot of this was already known by people in the biz, it just made it to the public. For example and the only one I need. Lane persued Arkansas. I really want to hear how he explains this one to the media, unless they only throw him softballs.

Personally, I might agree that they were all laughing at us. But now that the drama has ended for the time being, except of course the war of words between the two, I don't think they're laughing now. We have the chance to get some order, stability in our coaching and with that the very likelihood of producing better on the field and getting some wins. And I don't think they would be laughing about that. I wish Coach Cable the best of luck. GO RAIDERS!
