Kiffin doesn't seem to have much of an argument IMO, there is only a limited number of roster spots open, there is a salary cap in place, the data suggest we made as many moves as any other team lately.
Maybe he was just frustrated with some of the camp injuries we've had to deal with this year, but it's time to get ready for the regular season at this point, not time to have a cattle call of bodies come in.
Getting off to a good start should be the focus right now, Denver and KC are both games we can win, and getting off the a 2-0 start with 2 division wins could give this young team a confidence boost.

I agree.
Plus, the huge roster cuts have yet to be made. I think stating these things before we make our cuts and other teams make theirs is premature. We don't even know what kind of names are going to be available until teams star trimming down.

I think that Coach Kiffin feels the pressure to win (as do all coaches) in a situation where he doesn't have full control of the team (which needs to happen) all the while having players get hurt and others maybe not contributing as much as they should. That would give anyone fits. I feel for Coach, but that's why they get paid the big money. Adapt and overcome!

Kiffin's problem seems to be the hanging on of under performing and always injured scholarship players. Good luck with that fight Lane. Another SF Gate reporter trying to stir the pot I am shocked......................Well not really.

Kiffin can play it safe in criticizing the front office... I'll be more than happy to take up the mantle and criticize the front office all damned year...

That was actually a good article. I wonder how many posters above me actually read it.
I agree in that Kiffin's little "stands", while refreshing at first, are starting to sound more and more like whining.

I think he is just frankly is frustrated by the 80 man roster limit we had...it doesn't always go back to our front office

I read it. Nowhere in the entire article does it cite Kiff "criticizing the front office" as stated in the title. Just another run=of-the-mill anti-Raider hype piece by another writer that ran out of writing material. Nothing to see here...

I can understand some of his frustration. Grant Irons has barely seen the practice field, he has almost no chance to make the team. The guy probably wouldn't have even gotten a look if it weren't for his pedigree. We should just IR Arman Shields and be done with it. Guy hasn't been able to stay out of the trainers room and will see little or no action this season.
That's two roster spots right there we could use on someone that can possibly help us. Last I heard Sam Adams was still available. Certainly can't hurt to have some veteran depth on the DL. Maybe get a wr in here that can also help in the return game, i.e. Robinson, Dwight, Parker.
I'm not saying what's out there is great but certainly someone who can help this club.

Part interesting:
"You've got to be willing to release people," he said Sunday. "When guys are in the training room, (and) they're not out here practicing, you've to be willing to release them and live with it, and pick other people up for more competition."
So basicaly on the Raiders if you get injured your screwed. That's a real development plan? What does something like the union have to say about this? It sounds good in one sence what he's saying, but this is far far from that country we live in now. He sounds pretty young with that. I'm sure he has better intentions though, seriously.
-----
"It was the verbal equivalent of a Hail Mary pass. Kiffin has thrown a lot of them this year. He can't get his disenchanted patron, owner Al Davis, to give him any real power, so he has to remind people that he is coaching this season with one hand tied behind his back and a rope looped around his neck."
And the stats shown we are right there with the rest of the leauge in terms of moving players around and actually a little ahead of the curve. So basically then the whole league is playing with one hand tied. And any coach needs to win to survive, I will grant you that the time is a bit shorter in Oakland to get something going.

Kif's beef here is weak and borders on whining. The only way his comments make any sense at all is if he is frustrated by the number (80) of players he can have in camp. Other coaches have addressed this as a problem. But to simply argue that we should release all the injured players and pick up other players (because we all know that there are a ton of quality players out there that not one NFL team wants) is ridiculous. Or to get rid of some camp fodder to pick up some more fodder....is that going to increase competition? Frankly his comments make no sense. We have been as active as any team in the NFL, so what is our front office doing that is so lame? To publicly come out and attack the organization for well, what?....for behaving much like any other organization: I am sorry, does not make sense.
Al is by no means perfect, but this particular attack makes little to no sense to me.

He wasn't whinning nor was he making an attack. I was there and he was asked specific questions about roster spaces, moves, and depth. He was only responding to the questions. What do you expect him to do; lie and sugar coat it like so many NFL coaches?

Yeah, it may have been a good article, but this information was from Kiffin's media address from SUNDAY! It's actually old news. Plus, Gwen doesn't even cover the Raiders camp on a daily basis. She's going off the notes from David White (SF Chronicle) who is actually the daily beat writer and the AP Wire.
