He's slated to take Sapp's place with the 3 technique. That is how they justified paying him the big $$$$. He's versatile enough to play DE but will not start there. He is a DT this year. He'll be lined up next or Warren or Sands depending on down and distance.

It's the first f-ing day of training camp, settle down. Good God. I'm sure Kelly will move around, as has been stated by numerous people, depending on down and distance.
Only a couple of hours (if that) into the 1st day of training camp, and people are already going insane and drawing ridiculous conclusions.

He's listed as a DE (not a DT, not a DT/DE) on the roster.

Tommy Kelly can play at DT and DE.
He will be positioned based on the defensive package.
He probably will not play DT exclusively.
This may explain somewhat (although not completely), why he got such nice contract.

yea the reasoning in not drafting dorsey from kiffin was that why would he draft dorsey when we just paid a 3 techinque top dollar, he said it would be a waste to pay top dollar for two 3 techs.... now if kelly is playing end that doesnt make any sense???

Kelly is a three technique regardless what the article or the website says. It's been well established that he now has a home as a 3 tech and will NOT be moved around.

nope, but I also am biased as I have been a Kelly supporter from the 1st time I saw him in action with us in preseason. (also thought Irons would develop as well as Kelly has so far, but I was wrong on that one) He was a undrafted rookie who has only gotten better every year playing for us with more of a role we have given him. Now we are taking the leash all the way off, and he's going to be a beast for us imo.... the $$$ amount does not make a difference to me, not my money. But Kelly is some Raider grown talent and still has not neared his potential imo.... just kick back, grab yo popcorn ala T.O. cuz TKO will show us why the team thinks he will be one of the best 3techs in the leauge.
