He was scheduled to make $2.8 million this season.
The nine-year pro was drafted by the Chiefs the third round of the NFL draft back in 2000, and has been a fixture of the Kansas City secondary since, compiling 592 tackles during that span with 6-sacks and 29-interceptions.
In Oakland he will compete for a back-up job with the likes of Jarrod Cooper, Tyvon Branch, John Bowie, Rashad Baker, Darrick Brown and Michael Waddell.

"...there was one constant, one center, one captain, one Original Raider...his name was Jim Otto, his number was 00...for more than a full decade, he was the standard of excellence by which centers were judged in professional football"...

Lombardi says this guy's got nothing left in the tank but that Al is infatuated with him and that this will be like the Donovan Darius signing. We'll see who's right soon enough...
Even though I would've liked to see us sign a player like Grady Jackson instead, if Welsey has anything left this could be a good pickup for depth or even special teams play. At $730,000, he seems to be a cheap price to pay a veteran backup too.
Who cares. If he makes the grade, great. If not, he will get cut. No harm in signing this guy. At least we can pick his brain on the Chefs defensive schemes.
