Raiders look better

Posted by ESPN.com's Bill Williamson

After attending the Raiders' minicamp the past two days, I expect them to be improved in 2008. The team that has won a league-low 19 games in the past five years is moving in the right direction.

There are a lot of skill-position players on this team. Quarterback JaMarcus Russell has a ways to go in his development, but he looks decent physically and he has tools. Like any young quarterback, he needs refinement.

The jewel could be rookie tailback Darren McFadden. For a team that has struck out often in the first round recently, McFadden may be a prize. He showed great explosiveness and he looks like a playmaker just waiting to happen.

There are concerns in Oakland, such as the receiving crew and both lines. Overall, the offense should be better than in the past two years, and if the defense can fix its problems against the run, the Raiders should win some games. I'm not saying the Raiders are going to be an instant playoff contender, but with an improved roster and an easy schedule, the win total should increase from recent years.

Raiders
Nice.

lol. I wonder if bill williamson is really going to the practices, or if he had some of his assistants go and tell him what's going on. He sure did switch his opinion. Makes me wonder if two different people went with two different opinions, and this guy just writes this up to end his report. hmmmm.

or

Maybe he didnt go at all. Just write Russell is fat, McFadden is a star, call up other reports to hear about certain plays and wha la... we have a report for espn.

Awfully fishy reporting. Just makes me wonder.

Well, he's not a fan, but that was reasonably fair.

These guys really miss the skill position improvements.
Sure, JRuss is a kid, but McCown plain out sucked.
How 'bout the press going in depth, rather than making a few obvioius points that glosses over the radical changes at S, QB, CB, and HB, and the improvenents at RDE and UT, .

Agreed. Everything written is so obvious and so old. So few of these talking heads and writers seem to go beyond superficial.

Why is no one in the media talking up the fact that this is the first time in years we have a REAL starting QB, with no controversy? That fact alone is going to make us better.

LOL!

So what's wrong with a QB that may have a drinking problem, a QB who's got a torn pec, a QB who's been hit so much that he carries a whistle to blow plays dead early, a QB who couldn't hit his own foot with a spiral, or a gimpy one who has no practice time? What's the problem?
