Exactly my point.

All the Raiders woes can't be blamed on the run D.

You have to be consistently bad on both sides of the ball, and ST to amass a 19-61 record.

IMO, this team is moving in the right direction (with the offseason moves made), HOPEFULLY in all phases of the game.

Rome was not built in a day....

I didn't mean Williams instead of Kelly, I meant as well as. I would prefer Williams to either Rogers or Jenkins, they are both going to be 30 while Williams will be 27/28, also Jenkins only played like 37 games over the last 4 years where Williams played 56 and Kelly played 49. Kelly at 3tech and Williams at NT I think would have been pretty darn good.

I agree about Grady, and I think Sands will play better than last year, but we'll see.

Maybe I am confused, I thought he was a NT. If not, than yeah my plan would suck, We have enough 3techs.

Rob Ryan needs to come with the heat this year. Im tired of seeing everyone and their mommas drop back into coverage, even on obvious running downs. There can be a 2 TE set in the I formation with a LT linedup at FB and Ryan still call pass coverage. WE NEED TO ATTACK THE BALL AT ALL TIMES, MIX IT UP, DONT BE SO DAMN OBVIOUS TO THE OFFENSE!!!!

Williams can play both the three technique or line up as a NT. I wouldn't say he's the protoypical wide body 2-gapper but he's an effective run stopper. I believe Cleveland plans on utilizing him in their 3-4 alignments. He's the guy I wanted last year in return when we were talking to GB about possibly dealing Moss there.

I just hope passing on the likes of Red Bryant, Dre Moore, Ahtyba Rubin doesn't come back to bite us in the arse. I think we'll be able to tell early in pre-season if this defensive unit is going to be improved or if we're going to see a repeat of the last four years.

Vanilla and prevent defense is all we have been running for years it seems. Players are always out of position to make tackles and when the are in position to make them they try to 2 Step them with an arm tackle. We need to attack the runner like a pack of angry dogs chasing a meat wagon like other good defenses do.

maybe I'm the confused one gdamac, but I thought he was a ut..... anywho it's all for naught seeing as how we passed on him. And I agree with you migman, we have the talent and speed on defense to attack. We are really wasting a lot of talent by not utilizing their speed. Turn em loose and let em play aggressive got dammnit!!!! It's like on Madden when you can mess with the coaching philospihy.... we are like 90% conserative and 10% agressive. We play the pass 90% of the time and anticipate run 10%..... wtf?????????

I thought we ran a perfect game plan against Indy last season. I believe we sacked Manning at least five times and had him flustered all game long. If not for a circus catch by Reggie Wayne, we probably win that game. Then we make Sage Rosenfels look like Joe Montana.

And due the the method bend don't break the defense made Rex Groosman look like Rex Groosman for most of the game then one drive he looked like Brett Farve. We to get out of this bend but break crap on defense. Who is the real defensive coordinator? Rob Ryan or Al Davis?

Somebody give me a honest answer.

Run Defense Facts

(1) Since coming here in 2004 Ryan's defenses weren't horrible against the run yes they were bad in yards but that is cause the team was so bad teams could just sit on the ball with no fear of us coming back etc... Yards per carry allowed from 2004 to 2006 3.7, 4.2, 4.0 last year we fell apart.

(2) Why did we fall part, after playing all over the line Kelly was shifted outside in 2007, Sapp lost weight and starting to really age, Sands was a bust compared to 2006 when he was effective. Brayton and Clemons were huge liabilities against the run, tackling and overpersuit was horrible.

(3) Clemons, Sapp and Brayton leaving are addition by substraction well they had strengths they were all liabilities against the run.

(4) Kelly replacing sapp, and Spires and Edwards replacing Clemons and Brayton is an upgraded as all three are better than the three they are replacing against the run/ Burgess played hurt last year too and he should be at full health this year. No one is looking at the Spires signing but he played the exact same role in TB (starting across from the pass rusher Rice) very effectively.

(5) With Hall and Aso on the outside we can put 8 in the box cause the corners do not need help, Wilson can also help in the BOx, look at what guys like Bob Sanders, Roy Williams do for there teams run defenses basically acting as a 4th Linebacker.

(6) If say a guy like Hartwell pans out that helps even more.

I do n0ot htink we are going to be great against the run, however, I think we can move back into the middle of the pack and if we can do that and if our pass defense gets as good as I think it can be we should get towards the top 10 level in terms of points allowed.

the easy and honest answer is Al...... rush four and drop seven, bend but don't break.
