Kawakami: Raiders rookie has a day to dazzle




Officially, it was just blah Day 2 of the Raiders' short May rookie mini-camp. No JaMarcus Russell, nobody on defense you know or will ever need to. Yawn.
But from the first time he touched the ball to the last play of practice, unofficially Saturday was Darren McFadden Day.

He took handoffs and went the distance. He practiced taking snaps as a quarterback without obvious chaos. He practiced catching passes. He lined up as a wide receiver in full-squad drills and spooked every defensive back on the field.

Really, No. 20 was practically the only jersey that mattered all afternoon............. (Click to read rest of article)

McFadden split out wide with Fargas or Bush behind Russell sounds like trouble for opposing defenses. McFadden will excel as a receiver because there's no CB or LB that can match up with him. i hope Kiffin takes full advantage of DMC's fast-twitch speed and uses him the way he used Bush at SC. there's no reason to try to hammer him between tackles when we have Fargas and (hopefully) a healthy Michael Bush to run the ball down opposing team's throats.

Believe me, he will take it up the middle, and everyone will complain about the play-calling. But, it is just to keep everybody honest. I can forsee some plays where he steps up, as if to take it up the middle, only to bounce out like Marcus Allen and take it the distance! Just don't get too pissed when you see plays with him going up the middle, despite there being nowhere to go.
