Our defense this year

So I'm watching NFL Replay right now, Chargers vs. Vikings. Yes Peterson was obviously the star in this game but Minny's defense was very impressive. That got me thinking, we need to play defense like THAT!!! None of this rush 4 drop 7 nonsense on every single freakin down. BLITZ!!! Anticipate a run, and stack the line clogging the gaps!!! Basically we need to be very agressive instead of this bend but don't break bull-poop that never works anyway. I mean, Minny was all over the Chargers, blitzing them, and even on handoffs, they're hitting HARD and sticking it to Tomlinson. I would LOVE for us to play this way. Weather Rob Ryan (or Al) allows it is another story.

No doubt about that. And I'm sure we gonna see a different Raiders defense this year *fingers crossed*

Great idea, the problem last year was when we blitzed we would get burned for big yards. But now that we have a Secondary that excels in tackling blitzing sounds great.

If we don't begin to blitz more with the secondary we have then I don't know whats up with Ryan.

Blitzing is the key to putting unknown pressure on a QB if he doesn't know who's coming then that gives us an advantage but since we hardly ever blitz then why look out for it.

I think we should adopt the Atl Falcons Gritz Blitz of the late 70's under Jerry Glanville

Maybe they should start with tackling, and then work their way up to blitzing............

I just would like to see a more aggressive defense than in years past. This rush 4 drop 7 on every down isn't cutting it.

Amen.

It baffles me that we have a millionare defensive football players some drafted in the first round even. And we have to hope that they can make the tackle. Sad. The last thing we should be worried about pro football players doing is tackling. But maybe the Raiders scout department doesn't worry as much about tackling as they do 40 yard dash time.

Hopefully Al is going to allow Ryan to "open up the playbook" on defense this year... Wilson is going to play in the box a lot allowing us to bring different looks and blitz packages. Huff will be in center field, Aso and Hall will be able to hold their own. Both Hall and Aso can tackle, play man, and play physichal. Wilson will help the run support in the box and is a sure tackler. Huff will be a big impact on our d, he's the last line of defense now. He can cover, but if he's one on one with a rb, and he's the only thing in between the rb and a td... will Huff be able to make a sure tackle? He did not show it at SS. He needs to step it up this season because he's the weaklink of the secondary, and his name has been in trade rumors. This has to be his boom or bust year.

I think our d line can over-achieve is Sands can step it up. If Kelly does well at the UT, and Sands can eat up 2 blockers and stuff the middle allowing Wilson, Morrison, Howard, and hopefully Hartwell to run freely our D will be nice. All sounds great and these players are capable imo of doing it but can they show it on the field? If they can put it togther watch out for this team.

For a while I blamed Ryan for the defensive shortcomings UNTIL the "Great One" said ...."I will be involved with the scheme on Defense".....and just like everything else that has gone wrong within the organization his continued involvement has resulted in 19 -61.
