Yes Andrew Walter can be a good enough back up.
HA HA HA HA

nice post... i also agree, why didnt kiffin put him out by week 13? i would have loved to see what AW can actually do with a decent line.

All you guys are saying that you can't judge Walter based on 2006. The truth is that we have already seen him judged by Kiffin and his staff. Walter was 4th on the depth chart, the Raiders had some very bad quarterback play last season and still never gave a start to Walter. It's hard to judge a guy who has played so little but sometimes you have to read between the lines.

I'm sure the team wants to sign a veteran backup but may be unable to do so beacuse of salary cap constraints.

I f*ckin love Walter no homo, I'd take him over 98% of the leagues back up QB's. Real talk, I hope he remains a Raider his whole career.

It's hard not to like the guy...he is a good QB just got into a bad situation under coach shell and the bed and breakfast guy. I want him to stay a Raider too but he deserves another shot at a starting job with some other team.

I have to disagree with the majority. I think Walter would be a more than competent QB in the right system but not this one.

We installed the ZBS to fit the personell we currently have and the majority of ZBS teams are WCO's and Walter has ZERO mobility. He does have an arm, he does have the desire and tenacity but he will never get the time to throw in this system.

Somebody said that in 06' his arm looked weak and not up to his original draft stock, remember that he was throwing bombs that were NOT getting caught. Every deep throw that I saw was one pathetic incompletion after another (Remember Moss didn't give a **** and Porter had been benched for awhile) and the occasional bulleted 8 yd. pass.

I hope he catches a break somewhere but not here, we need backup who knows the mental game first and can still baby sit with their physical skills if need be.

Trent Dilfer is not my first choice but he's probably better at explaining things than Daunte "Run for it" Culpepper. Daunte has and will always rely on his physical skills first and that is not what an already physically gifted rookie QB needs to learn from. On the flip side if an injury were to occur this season I would rather see Daunte on the field than Dilfer.

On the contrary,

Walter was 4th because he had to be.

McCown and Culpepper were the guys the paid to QB thru the 07' season.

Due to his late release by Miami, Culpepper had a lot of ground to cover.

McCown took the majority of snaps but got dinged, that made Culpepper's need for more reps priority and of course since the rookie #1 overall DP missed camp, he's gonna need to get up to speed too.

That left Walter the odd man out, but not neccessarily so this year.

He's just cuaght some tough breaks in his early career in Oakland.

He's had sometime to season and has definitely learned how tenuous the position of QB can be in the bigs.

I hope he stays considering the lack of replacement prospects.

I also hope he never sees the field for us in the next 5 years.

Luckily, I have erased the majority of memories from the '06 season from my brain, but I think Walter can still be a serviceable backup QB.

Like others have said though, I hope we don't find out.

I'd like Walter to battle a vet for the number two spot. I know Walter would of done more with the opportunity Josh was given last season.

Definitly yes.

I trust Walter and what happened in 06 wasn't his fault.
I feel sorry he didn't get a real shot a starter, I really think he can be starter somewhere in the league if we release him.

So yes he can be our backup
