And he didn't even make the final roster. After being drafted in the 3rd round and given a $660 k signing bonus. Gone. Another great job by the scout department.
And Carlos Francis especially after that preseason game at Candlestick Park. Holy Moly. You would have thought he was Cliff Branch Jr according to some post. After he caught that bomb and ran back that kick he was the man. And sad to say the bum didn't do poop since.
Johnnie Morant was another preseason probowler. Had a helluva game at Minnesota. Nice caught and run for TD and good throw by Andrew Walter. He was gonna be the next big thing. He had size and speed too. Bum didn't do much of squat in the regular season.
Thats why I tell people to wait and see.
Hell the list can go on. Teyo Johnson was gonna be Jeremy Shockey. Madre Hill was gonna be Marcus Allen. Every year we get the preseason probowlers and training camp hall of famers. But how about we wait and see them produce in the the real games before we call them a steal.
Kirk Morrison was a steal
Ron Curry turned out to be a steal
Thomas Howard was well worth the second round pick.
Lets see how the chaps do when the lights come on and it counts before we give them title of "Baller" or "Bum".
Time will tell.

Yeah, I wasn't a member when those guys got picked in '06, I remember people talking up Moses now that you mention it. I got high hopes for anyone we pick or sign, but like Parcells said about R(h)omo, let's wait to break out the anointing oil!

Andrew Walter never got a fair shot, even Tom Brady would look pathetic when you throw him to the lions behind that horrendous line we had in 06.

I agree. Look I ain't saying he would have ended up being Joe Montana but come on. That 2006 was AWFUL. Not even Joe Montana in his prime could have produced. Hell being that Joe wasn't much of a scrambler he probaly would have gotten "Chris Simms-ed' behind that horrid line.
But really that wasn't a fair chance for Walter.

True dat!
Critics said it "might take an entire year for Walter to recover from 06'."
I like Walter. He's been there a little while and has some (albeit horrible) live fire experience and is likely along the lines of any other back up avail other than Dilfer who's mentoring may be valued by some.
I hope we don't see him at all, but if we had to?
I'd be ok with Walter.

That's easy to say, and as Raider fans it gets old hearing about combine numbers only, but if you ignored the combine you would miss out on players like LT whose stock rose greatly at the combine. DRC is another one, small school guys use the combine to get noticed. But basically you're right, you have to keep the combine numbers in proper perspective, just one component of a big picture.
However, if you want to draft based on numbers in the late rounds that's fine with me, just keep your head coach in place so he can bring them along. Don't fire him every two years!

Maybe it's just me but I get more excited for these new guys potential upside than for the vets trying to eke out one last season based on their rep. If any of these rooks pan out they'll contribute for years. The vets, we're happy if they make it through the season. Of course, the right blend of both and you got a solid team.

I don't like either of the Wr's we got, but Branch and Scott weren't bad picks for the round we got them in. Branch could be a good special teamer and Scott could be a good rotational player at DE.
