John Clayton on KHTK 1140

Clayton said he thought the Raiders would be average with a good chance of being better than average. " If you look at their schedule, they could easily have a winning record after week 11 which would put them in contention for a wild card".

I agree with this, but I think the first 4 weeks of the year will be critical for the teams success.

Clayton's comments have about as much merit as the fans declaring great success. You cannot and shouldn't comment in May what the team will be like in late fall... It's an opinion, but no less absurd than those posting comments as if they've seen success via the crystal ball... We'll know after September if this team is as good on the field as they appear to be on paper...

I cant listen till later. So if somebody could give some tidbits on the interview, I would appreciate it. Is that all he said about us??
This time of year I hate predicting what Oakland will/can do. It's just a matter of having a little bit of luck, and going out there and playing solid football. The only thing I know for certain, with all the offseason acquistions I think we'll definately have a better understanding of how good Kiffin is going to be. I thought he was good last season, because we were in almost every game and we had no talent. This coming season, we'll definately have more talent. We'll see what happens.

And Mr Peabody did not make any startling predictions. I could predict that the team would be average and maybe better than average. I will even thrown in they could be good, very good or excellent if things work out correctly.

He was basing his opinion on our schedule.

I think both the pro and con comments need to be restrained a bit until we've actually seen a game played. There's a lot that can happen between now and then.

Lets not talk Wild Card or playoffs just yet. The first four games will be a good indication on how our season will shake out.

I'm sorry, but what's wrong with making predictions based on the information you have today? I find nothing wrong with that.

We should all be bold and strive for the best and hope for and believe in our ability to succeed. The only problem comes when people live in a culture of blame when things don't go right. So what?

In the immortal words of Woody Allen, "80% of success is showing up." Or from Diane Arbus, "Learn not to be careful." Or David Kelley of IDEO, "Fail faster. Succeed sooner." According to Tom Peters, one of the most important qualities of leaders is the ability to forget. "Reward excellent failures, punish mediocre successes."

Be bold, be crazy, shoot for the moon and don't look back.

Yeah, we're going to the playoffs this year. There, I said it.

I agree, people are beating a dead horse with the constant anti-speculation stuff in every thread. What else are we supposed to do, we aren't Cleveland Brown fans, we have a right to hope for good things.
