As for the take by the original poster about pass blocking--------Yeah Kiffin's sytem with Cable's O-Line coaching was better than the year before-----Our Qbs still got killed though, come on! With the "talent" signed this offseason and guys with a year of the sytem under their belt, we should be just a little better than last year, hardly good enough!
What's with the blind optimism?
Personally, I'm hoping for a miricle, but I don't expect one. Maybe a big time trade could be made to bring in real NFL left tackle......I still hold hope for that.......but don't expect it.

Stop laughing and learn math and stats. Good QB play = Less sacks/attempt than bad QB play.

If you get rid of all the prima donnas, you won't have a good team.
With the #1 defense, you only need so many points to win the Superbowl.

Only Pepp got killed, and he was not only gimpy, I got the feeling he was trying to pad stats a bit and not throwing the ball away as much as he should have.

A big time tackle might not be the ZBS run blocker Harris is, and Cable might turn around Harris.

Blind optimism? I don't see it. I do see undue panic, though.

Who compiled the stats for this analysis? Were there any statistics that pointed out when these sacks occurred? down and distance for example. Were they also charted when each QB called the exact same play? I'm just curious how the data was compiled and the analysis was done. You have to factor in the number of snaps each QB took, what plays were called, which WR's were in the game at the time, and what type of coverage the defense was in. From a statistical perspective you have to factor in a many variables to get accurate data.

JRuss is reasonably mobile, and can be very accurate on the run to his right. That will definately help the passing game.

One of the biggest misconceptions about JaMarcus Russell is that he is suited only for the sort of play-action, dropback passing attack ....

It’s a stereotype which has .... everything to do with size. Russell is a big, strong-armed quarterback, ergo, he should be throwing deep every play.

Russell could play in that style, but he’ll be infnitely more interesting moving to his left or right and finding targets out of the pocket. He is nimble afoot, takes up huge chunks of yardage on each step of his rolls, and looks natural throwing on the run.
Big arm, mobile, and can hit the whole field. There's 2 of 3 areas the QB position was upgraded this year.

The NFL compiled the stats.
NFL.com posted them.

The didn't break down the plays called (passing left, right, deep, etc.). I don't see how much that matters when you're talking attimpts per sack. Watching the games, it often looked to me that Pepp kept a lot of balls than he could have thrown (a la Jeff George), but I don't know how much that skewed the stats.

As per my previous comment and Jerry McD's quote in my last post, JRuss is fairly mobile, and all this panic about sacks seems clearly overdone.
If JRuss has the same ratio as McCown did, he could throw 500 passes and onl have 37 sacks. I'd bet that if JR attempts 500 passes, he'll easily have 3,000 yards, and we'll win a playoff game.

In that same article, JD suggests that the Raiders are wishing Henderson unseats Green at RT. There's no suggestion that the lack of cohesion on the line is of greater concern.

i think we'll improve quite a bit. somebody on the d line will need to step up or if hartwell can come through, that would be huge. i think alot of our future path will relate to how good kwame harris is. we really don't have too much depth at lt. if he can pass block in the cable scheme, then our offense can stay on the field for a long time and we can put pressure on the other offense to pass versus run against our run d that's had problems. if a team is down by 10 or more, i agree, it will be tough for other teams to comeback via the pass.

What fact based analysis was there? I sure didnt see any. All I see is you attemtping to twist some very VAGUE stats into proof that your "opinion" is fact. I have no problem with you wanting to believe that the sacks werent the o-lines fault and that this year the o-line will be good, but when you try to say that you have proven that will be the case with so called "facts", well the FACTS are you havent even come close to that. Your opinion and proven facts are two very different things.

If you can run but not be accurate nor hit a large percentage of the field, it's kinda irrelevant.
JRuss has the potential to radiaclly change the dynamics of the Raider offense the way a Favre or an Elway can.

DB's can't relax while JR's running.

In many cases, our WR's will have more time and a lot more field to get open in. It's like we made the opponents red zone 10 yards bigger, 'cause we made the usable field bigger.

It would be great if he had 4 or 5 seconds every play to stand there and throw, but if JRuss develops into a QB who can Roll and Throw, he's gonna create unique nightmares for the defense. Imagine him rolling 20 yards right, faking a long pass down the sideline, and throwing a 40 yard screen to McFadden on the other sideline. Ouch.

Mike Vick was mobile, but he didn't change the game that much. JRuss seems to have a chance to change the game.
