you got me there!
I suppose we could sit on here and discuss everything that is wrong with the team, but it probably wouldn't lead to many hits for the site, and the continuation of a place for us all to talk. Everyone hates on the catchphrases like Commitment to Excellence, and Just Win Baby, but the expectation of success is what drives the organization and motivates us as fans to keep coming back to the team we love.
i guess what im saying is that you can write up a whole book on the future and what you think whats going to happen in the future...

you can back it up history facts and statistical info but the truth is none of it may happen so whats the point of arguing every what if....as in, "i think the raiders will have a great fantastic wonderful running game and our o line will be even better because of tom cable"....that sounds wonderful in therory...i guess...but cable isnt a savior and oline stinks.

I guess I just don't see it as arguing. We're talking. Conversation. Entertainment, speculation, fun stuff.

It's okay to have differing opinions. One of mine is that Cable was a savior last year, having taken a complete disaster and turned it into an o-line that was pretty darned decent having produced the 6th best rushing offense in the league.

But it's totally cool if you disagree.

Debate, speculation, talking,... it's what we do here since I'm contractually bound not to disclose the contents of my patented crystal ball.

Let's turn this 'potential' to something 'kinetic'.

Then why do some fans cry when that differing opinion is brought up? I'm not trying to rude or condescending, but face it bro, some fans and I'm not going to mention names start complaining if you don't agree with his/her/its threads...

Man, I hope that I didn't do that (seriously). If I did, I apologize.

I'm not trying to defend that position. My point is that IMHO people should be bold and optimistic. These are critical, time-proven traits of leaders. Not everybody is bold and optimistic, and not everybody who is bold and optimistic is a leader... but you have to start somewhere.

People should be encouraged to shoot for it all. And picked up when they miss. We don't have enough people doing crazy things that improve our universe. There's too much safe in this world.

I dislike pessimism intensely. Especially when it comes out in me (which it does far too often for my comfort level). That isn't to say I feel people have no right to be pessimistic (double negative), just that I am not a fan of the approach and try with all my being to rid it from myself.

Like Bluto said [paraphrased], did we give up with the Germans invaded Perl Harbor??

Rant over. Again, sorry if I cried when a differing opinion was raised. Not my intention.

Too often, this team is described as being 'good on paper' and 'having potential', all the way back to Art Shell/Mike White. It always infuriated me that the Raiders had all this 'talent', and could'nt post up more than 8 wins. That's not to say that I'm not optimistic about this season, just not for a playoff berth. I would like to see 6-8 wins, just for Kiffin to remain for at least another year. Switching coaches year after year after year is'nt going to get this team to truly gel. I believe this is the first time in about 3 years that we have a team coming back under the same coach- if you want to count Norvell, that is. Like they say, time will tell.....

I feel the same way, I'm tired of potential and looking great on paper... get it done plain and f**king simple...

Exactly. So why doesn't it come to fruition? Why can't all this talent be successful on the field? Is it the players having all the talent but no heart? Is it the coaching? What is stopping the Raiders from winning games? That's the bottom line questions here. Anybody got any ideas?

Good post Ran and I agree, as long as teams can run the ball on us we will continue to lose close games. We must address our weak front seven.

Something positive

I will hold on to the thought that the O-line will have improved in the zone blocking scheme. It is the same guys working with the same scheme, same o-line coach. I feel confident that we will have a 1300+ yard rusher this year.
J-Russ will master the play-action-pass and we will be rolling into playoff bliss. A new winning attitude will imerge and flow from the locker room like a river of gold and we shall reap the reward. Remember I said it here first 1300+ yard rusher this season.
