Bigger Need?

Pass Rush vs. Run Stuff

It seems most agree that we need help along the d-line the most. My question is what do we need more?

A run-stuffing tackle or a pass rushing DE?

You could make a very good argument for both. Our run d was atrocious the last couple years, but so was our turnovers/sacks. A good tackle will help clog the middle(helping the LB's) while a good DE will cause some turnovers with pressure and sacks(helping our DB's).

I know we've talked about WHO you'd rather draft, but I want to know what POSITION is the biggest need along the D line.

Stopping the Run is the bigger priority. Oakland hasnt stopped the run in 5 years, and we play in the AFC West. We have guys such as Tommy Kelly (with his new contract, so he better play), Gerard Warren, Derrick Burgess, and our whole secondary (Asomugha, Routt, Washington, Huff, Stu,Wilson), as well as our LB Corp doing better against the pass.

Now who do we have to stop the run????......Oh, that's right Jay Richardson, and Terdell Sands.

No Question it's stopping the run, Oakland's BIGGEST priority/need!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I went w/pass rushing DE

- A ton of $$$ already in our DT's
- Tha loss of Chris C.
- Not a blitzing team
- Jay has shown nothing as a pass rusher at RDE

- Chris (who won't be there with tha 4th pick imo) Vernon, or "maybe" DMac (but I doubt it with all our current backs)
- OT? I feel Jake probably goes ta St. Louis
- Maybe tha DT Sims in round 2?

Bottom line.....
We need ta stop tha run better and we need ta pressure tha QB more.....both!!

We need both, but to me the larger need is still the same need from prior to FA - we need to bolster the interior line.

Kelly is a great re-sign but not the entire answer. DT and DE would be my pickups, plus WR, in the first couple rounds.

I think a pass rushing DE is more of a luxury than a need, and it's not exactly like they're a dime a dozen. Consider yourself lucky if you can land one that is effective and can manage to stay healthy these days..

Stopping the run has been a bigger need for us for some time now.

One thing though we already have a large amount of money in DT's. So even though they arent the best dont know if we will look to early there but not saying I would mind if we did.

Typically yes, you're correct, however, we're not a blitzing team and very oftenw ill only have the 4 linemen blitzing. So we better have someone that can do it.

I went with the pass rushing end. They are a rare breed, amd if we get one who has to be accounted for on every down it helps the DT's.
