You know, ....understanding how much Al Davis loves the spotlight, and how he loves to win, coupled with the fact that he to is human....I think all posts that want to point out the bad decisions he may have made are rediculous. I would love to see some of the folks on this site do the job Mr. Davis has done for the length of time he has done it. The man wants to win, more than anything, and i think its pretty ****ty of people to bash him or critisize him. Do you not think he too, was totally embarrassed by the performance or lack thereof last season? I choose to accept the fact that he has made some bad decisions in the past, that hindsight is 20/20, and also that he continues to do what is going to give the Raiders the very best chance to have a winning season and succeed, to the best of his ability, just as i also choose to accept the fact that there are people on this website who insist on proving their ignorance time and time again!

Thankyou for the Oakland Raiders, Mr. Davis!

Loyalist, disagreeing with you does not show ignorance, it shows objective thinking. Of course hindsight is 20/20, but that is what what one gets for being in sports, criticism and analysis after the fact. Al isn't immune from criticism because we appreciate what he has done for the game, and if fact it is the difference between the first twenty or so years of his career and the more recent seasons that make some of us wonder if he has lost it, or if the game has changed beyond his comprehension.

As far as winning goes, there are many times that Al's ego and parsimony has
cost us games and playoff appearances. It's his team and dough, so I don't say that he doesn't have the right to be selectively cheap and also ditch talent, while signing mediocre players and hoping they are the next Gannon. But it is sort of our team too, and when there are glaring examples of ineptness on his part, you bet some of us are going to point them out.

Finally, this is a forum about the Raiders, and when we follow the rules we get to post. I long for the day after our next SB win, when there will be NO critical posts. (Except of course, for the inevitable concerns about salary cap hell). Until then, and especially as long as we are in the cellar, get used to people who passed on the koolaid and speak their mind.

I gotta ask man, why is every post you make italicized and bold?

Anyway, you would be a fool to think that any 70+ year old person is going to simply change who they are. You'd be even more a fool if you believed a man like Al Davis who has been doing this for over 40 years would change all of a sudden. It's not all bad and you won't find an organization that is perfect for 40 years. Impossible.

I never said that disagreeing with me showed ignorance Paul. Ignorance doesnt speak to disagreement, it speaks to a lack of knowledge....if a person is ignorant of something...they simply dont know, they are not stupid, just uninformed. Also disagreeing with me, contrary to your words, does not necessarily show "objective thinking".

Ok Loyalist, I get it, your initial reference to ignorance had nothing to do with this discussion...........right?

I must say that I agree with your statement:

Quote:
and also that he continues to do what is going to give the Raiders the very best chance to have a winning season and succeed, to the best of his ability
only because you qualify it with "to the best of his ability". Al, hampered by a monster ego, surrounded by sychophants, and living in the past, is doing his best.

What about Amy Trask tells you she's a "sychophant" or some time of "yes-man" err. "yes-woman"..

I'm intrigued by what we have this season, believe me. But I'm still skeptical of Al Davis' managerial skills.

LOL.

I never got the "doing his best" thing, either.

That's something you say about a performer in the special olympics, not an owner of a professional sports franchise.

In the professional world, doing one's best doesn't mean anything. Results are all that counts.

At least that's what we are led to believe... that may or may not be the case! who knows!

Let the season begin. I DO believe in luck, so lets get lucky. See you in September.
