D. Burgess
With Freeney getting 72 mil for 6 years and a 30 mil signing bonus & only getting 5.5 sacks last year do ya think we will be able to sign Burgess whose made it to the pro bowl the last two years?

Lets hope so, there is no way Burgess will ask that kind of money cuz Freeney did a lot more than he did on the field. Freeney was unbelievable in the postseason last year.

Some of these contracts can really handicap your team, allowing you less room to sign others. Burgess is a pivotal player on the defense. He deserves a very good contract. But the Raiders must be careful not to break the bank...there are a lot of good players on the D...and you want to keep as many of those players as possible as they move through the next few years. The cap does provide limitations that must be recognized. Hopefully Burgess will sign at reasonable contract and will not be looking to break the bank.

Them paying Freeney that much is crap, the guy had 6 sacks last year. Don't get me wrong, I still think that he's a special player, hear me out.
If you were building a franchise and drafting position by position, Julius Peppers would be the first to go. You have the next pick and it has to be a DE. Who are you taking?? It's just not a lock that Freeney would be the pick. Burgess, Freeney, Kampman, Schoebel, all of these guys are studs under 30. The Raiders are going to have to find a way to keep this core defensive unit together. Burgess, Nnamdi, Morrison, and the other emerging stars of this D will get paid. I just hope it's in Oakland. |

Freeney is also one of the best pash rushers around right now even if he did have a bad season the last one.

dude with Freeney signing for that much money in contrast to his production...... Burgess agent is going to have an absolute FIELD DAY with contract negotiations now....
This signing of Feeney was the worst thing that can happen with the Burgess situation |

Burgess will not be able to command the kind of money Freeney got. Even though his numbers were better, the fact of the matter remains that Freeney is a "household name", and Burgess quite simply isnt....yet. That's my theory at least.

Nope. His agent doesn't have near the leverage because of the tiny little fact that his client doesn't become a free agent until 2010. Burgess deserves a raise but he doesn't deserve to be paid like he was a free agent because he isn't.
