Interesting opinion from STU

I met STU on Saturday night at a club in SF. I was walking through and ran into him and said STU!! Raider Nation baby!!! He said come with me bro. Wow! What a great guy. He invited me to his private table for a drink.

I asked him, based on the recent OTAs, who he thought would start opposite of Burgess this year and to my surprise he said JayRich, our recent draftee out of Ohio State. I was pretty shocked. Apparently he is impressing everyone. I had a million more questions I wanted to ask but I didn't want to bug him too much.

I introduced him to my friends that I was with. We're all die hards and season ticket holders. My friends were really impressed with how cool the guy was and I have to admit, we, like a lot of people, have been wanting some change at the his position. But after meeting STU and seeing what a great guy he is, we're pulling for you STU!!

Just thought I would share that with y'all.

You didn't ask him how he would feel about riding the pine if we sign Donovan Darious?

Thanks for sharing, but I don't think starting is based on how nice you are.

I just can't see JayRich starting opposite Burgess. Quentin Moses hopefully will, he is a beast and Kevin Huntley could start too he is very talented as well. JayRich is not a 4-3 end in my opinion he seems like a 3-4 end. He should gain about 20 pounds and move to DT he might get some time there. Sapp is aging, Sands is good and Rich can get some time playing behind them with Kelly. (Kelly is okay and is versatile but not a starter and Hawthorne hasn't proved anything yet) Maybe he could develop and be something down the road or at least a worthy backup

Why can't Richardson be an everydown DE? He has the size and build for an everydown DE. Brayton was roughly the same size as Richardson. Huntley is only a few pounds lighter then JayRich. Granted, I don't think Richardson offers much in terms of speed neither did Bobby Hamilton.

Plus, Kelly is much more effective as a DE or used as an UT ( Sapp's position ) in which Kelly played very well while Sapp got a rest early in his career. Also, his one year at DE, he stopped the run very well and occasionally got pressure off the edge. Imo, Kelly is way better then just ok.

Why? We are looking for an everydown end and right now Moses is a little too light for that role. He can play in certain packages and downs but I don't see him as an immediate starter till he adds some muscle to his frame.

I just don't see Richardson as a everydown DE. While he is roughly the same size as Huntley he is nowhere near as fast. 40 times count for nothing to me because game speed is so much different but Richardson is REALLY slow to be an every down DE and in this day and age in the 4-3 you need DE's that are going to put pressure on the QB and Richardson isn't fast enough to do it alot from the DE position thats why I suggested he should gain some weight and be a DT.

Also your right about the Kelly part he is more than okay but he is not a guy that can start and anchor a D-line I want him getting serious playing time rotating through the D-line due to his versatility but not starting.

Moses is a little small and is a bit of a liability against the run and might be a situational pass rusher for a little while but I feel he will start before the season is over. He is a very athletic and has good speed and will most likely play the Left end (Burgess is the only truly great DE that I can think of that plays RE, Peppers,Taylor,Suggs and more play LE so it's kind of odd) and will be up against the the RT who is usually the stronger of the two tackles but alot less athletic and Moses can use his speed and athleticism to get to the QB easier especially with Burgess seeing all the double teams.

Moses run stopping can improve as well he is a smart kid and will get better. Lastly Burgess is small himself,he is only 260 and is a great pass rusher but is very solid and underrated against the run so if Moses works hard I don't see his size as a huge issue.

Uh-oh I think I wrote too much lol!! skim through it!
