The Phillies had a pretty high payroll and they added the most payroll this offseason, yet they still have a suspect rotation. Moyer is 46 and Blanton is average. Over the course of 5 years, he has a 101 ERA+ and his WHIP has been good, terrible, good, terrible over the past 4 years.
I just think that as soon as the Yankees make a move to spend money on a free agent, like C.C. Sabathia, A.J. Burnett, et al, the media will turn their attention to them and then all eyes will be on them. The fact is ALL teams spend money on free agents, look at the Angels, we have spent little but we did get Bobby Abreu & Brian Fuentes. Players come & go from all teams. To always take jabs at the Yankees for paying money for players while giving the other 29 teams a free pass for doing so, a part of me says that there is a double standard placed on them.

    Thanks bro

But Like I said in the chat box, AT LEAST the Yankees had a game & at least scored runs (unlike the A's), your Red Sox got their opening day game postponed.

Look, I am not a Yankee fan by any means but you & your boys should be concentrating on beating the defending American League Champion Tampa Bay Rays & then come to the Big A to face the mighty Angels instead of just dwelling on that one team you all are obsessed about.

The Yankee spending is excessive and unnecessary at times, but when people take jabs when it is unwarranted, that's when it becomes annoying.

This isn't debatable. Yankees by a wide margin.

I can't believe that there are actually people out there that are worried/elated (depending on who you're a fan of) about the Yankees first game. LOL...

Mark Teixeira, CC Sabathia, and the Yankees as a whole are known for being slow starters. Of course I'd like and hope for that to change, but it is a trend that can't be ignored.

    Mark Teixeira:

    APRIL:
.256 BA/.346 OBP/.787 OPS, 73 tOPS+ (OPS+ for month relative to his total OPS+), obviously the 73 indicated that he is much worse in this month, as 100 would indicate that he is right on par.

    CAREER:
    .290 BA, .378 OBP, .919 OPS

    CC Sabathia:

    APRIL:
    4.51 ERA, 1.39 WHIP, 3.53 BB/9, lowest K/BB ratio out of every month (2.06).

    EVERY OTHER MONTH:
    3.53 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, 2.74 BB/9, 2.80 K/BB

*Sabathia actually has terrible number for the month of July as well weighed in these stats.

His April numbers lead me to believe that he just doesn't have the command established at that point. His overall numbers are terrific outside of that.

    NY YANKEES

    APRIL W-L:
    '08: 14-15
    '07: 9-14
'06: 13-10 (pretty good for them)
    '05: 10-14
    '04: 11-10

*I hope this trend changes the most.

Conclusion: People shouldn't panic or celebrate just yet, lol.

Well as a Yankee fan that was a disappointing performance, however it's only one game. Yankee haters are just that, no matter what they always go something to complain about. Just check every message board. I may be in the minority here but I never go to other teams message boards and post. Do you Yankee haters do that as well and why? Just curious.
