Raiderfan in Chicago
Hello everyone:
Just signed up and thought I'd give a brief intro. Became a fan back in the '70's - grew up in Rockford IL (home of Cheap Trick and porn star Ginger Lynn) - and it seemed like the Raiders were always the late game on Sunday afternoons. Loved the uniforms, loved the characters on the team. My dad wasn't much of a football fan, the Bears were awful back then and, although my uncles in Milwaukee tried to get me on board w/ the Packers, it never took. Good thing, because I much prefer Silver and Black to Green and Gold.
The 3 Super Bowls from '77-84 were great. The drought since then, not so much. I'll save my comments about Al Davis for another time, but I don't live and die with the Raiders anymore, although they will always be my team.
Watching the win over the Redskins my freshman year in college with all my floormates was cool. It was my first exposure to those 100-square office-type pools. I had the winning numbers for the 3rd quarter until Marcus Allen decided to change directions and 74 yards later, I'm out $125. Talk about conflicting emotions!
Junior year I'm living in a townhouse w/ 5 Bears when the Bears win the Super Bowl. Raiders had a good team that year, so goofing on each others team was fun, but I wisely left the house, sensing a Bears blowout (let them have their day, and all). That was when football teams doing music videos was the thing to do. Arguing over (essentially) which teams music video sucked less was a good time.
Hoping to hook up w/ some Raiders fans here in Chicago at a bar. I saw that midwestraiders.com is shut down. Anyway, that's all I got.
