To Boo or Not to Boo
When is it alright to boo your team?
I've had this argument quite a few times. I personally think its never good to boo a college team. They aren't pro's and play for the school and team.
The pro's on the other hand, I think its ok to boo in certain situations. They are pro's, they are paid to produce. They are paid with the money you spend to get to see them. And if they are not giving you what you paid for then you have the right to boo. Say you see a receiver running a half hearted route, ok or not to boo...I say OK. Say a QB throws his 5th Int in a game...OK or not?? I say OK.
How is management going to know that the fans are fed up with a inferior product unless the fans voice their displeasure at the games? I think booing lets the guys upstairs know that they need to fix something and quickly. Now, I don't condone booing for every mistake, but if its an ongoing series of mistakes. Say....a bunch of losing seasons...or a years worth of INT's...then by all means.....
I know, rah rah and all that stuff, but they are getting paid millions, not 5.75 an hour. MILLIONS...let me repeat that MILLIONS... to do a job that most of us would do for free.
So what's your thoughts...Boo or NO Boo....

I don't have a problem with it. I am as loyal and adoring a Raider fan as you'll meet, but when have a player
that comes out and says he doesn't like it here and does not want to be a Raider, (Porter) or one that makes
upward of $10 mil a year (Moss) and puts forth zero effort in the heat of battle, for example, I say let them know how you feel.
For guys that just plain suck (Or stupid) , but are working hard and doing their best (Collins) or a young kid learning the ropes (Andrew), I would say give 'em a break.

I am a very loyal fan, but there are certain times when you have to make your displeasure felt, and there's really only two ways to do it: 1. you leave, or don't buy tickets to begin with; 2. you boo.
Now, most of the Raider games I see, I'm covering, so of course there's a dispassion as far as fan-ness. But I've got Flyers tickets, and they've played atrocious games that I've seen so far this year (for a while there, they had one more win than the Raiders in about a dozen more games). Now, I'm not a typically Philly fan who'll boo Santa - I'm not even from Philly, it's my buddy's team - but when you have to yank your starting goalie after the first period (twice!), it's fair to make your disgust felt. At $40 a seat, I'm entitled to tell Ed Snider just what I think of him paying Derian (Turnstile) Hatcher enough money that he could buy every seat in the stadium if he's sick of getting yelled at. Minus-freakin'-18 on the season, I think.
Wait, I'm getting off-track.
Point is, I would never say anything bad about a player or especially go to family or anything like that, other than maybe a generic or witty version of "you suck!" But if you suck, I'm gonna let you hear it. Tickets cost enough money, fans deserve a decent product. Well, not Arizona Cardinals fans. They oughta be used to it by now.
But it is a tough decision when you love a team. It's a decision I face away from the stadium, too, as a columnist. Am I disgusted with the offense? Yeah, who isn't. But it's like Michael Strahan said, media members spend time in the locker room, they get to know players. The Raiders are, for the most part, very nice guys in my experience. They're trying hard, they're earnest, they want to do well. It's tough to write something slamming them, but the results speak for themselves. This isn't AYSO soccer, where are the little kids are trying hard and deserve to be applauded. These are professionals making hundreds of thousands of dollars, or even millions.
I mean, if somebody came to my office and booed me every time I took a break or half-assed it, or screwed something up, it would suck big-time. But if they applauded and screamed when I did well, that might almost make up for it. And I mean, if I got paid even the NFL minimum, and that guy paid money to come and watch me work, I'd definitely take my lumps when I screwed up. And frankly, as hard as I work, I'd probably work even harder because he was there.

Exactly, you boo bad attitude, not bad performance. Not a players fault he can't beat the guy across from him if he is giving his full effort all around, that is the GMs fault. Unless a players bad performance is related to attitude, then it's all fair.
Craig Whelihan is a good example for us. He is one of the worst QBs to ever start a game in the league but you couldn't boo him because he at least tried and had some heart, and it wasn't his fault he was thrown into the lineup as a starter for 20 miserable games.

I boo'd Jerry Porter this offseason and when he was flipping off fans and stuff. And I boo'd Randy Moss when he dropped his umptenth million pass this season, but thats booing a player not the team, its letting the player know he aint livin up to what it means to the Fans to be a Raider. I dont ever boo my TEAM tho. But there is people that do when they dont like the play calling or whatever.
