How do you get into coaching? - Oakland Raiders Forum | Message Board

i'm 24 and would like to get into coaching. I played a little in high school ive just always been a student of a game more than a player. I just signed up at the boys and girls club as a volunteer coach. what can i expect, any tips? How can i go on to higher level coaching jobs?

Talk to your current coach at your old HS. Tell him that you are intersted in making a career out ouf it. They might try you out as like a position coach and you can work your way up. I was a WR coach for a few years in my old HS but eventually my college work got in the way. I too am like you and played only HS football. All you really need to do is teach teh proper mechanics and stress the fundamentals like catch the ball at it's highest point and things like that.

For the most part you can go to just about any Highschool and volunteer. They are always looking for people, you will be a glorified cheerleader until you show them something. I would susggest chooing a school and then scout their rivals and give that report to the coach it is 'proof of experience type deal" in addition they are always looking for someone to scout for them.

Yeah, or try asst coaching or volunteering for a "Youth" team....

It wouldn't hurt to take a coaching football class at your local JC or college, if it is offered. I am currently in a coaching football class at Fresno State, which is taught by Fred Bilitnikoff Jr. Even through I've always been a football guru, I have learned alot in this class already!
