CornerBack Tips

well ima Junior in H.S. and im planing on joining my schools team. the position im aiming for is CB with Safety as a second choice. Right now i have no real organized experience except some games at lunch and P.E. Im really bent on doing good and working hard to join the team, so i've really researched up the position and read up on some tips. but some of information to playing CB isent really easily to understand or not explained at all.

So i was wondering if anyone on here knows some really helpful tips for a starting CB or skills that i need to master to play the position well?

Key practice turn and run skills.....Basically backpedal as fast as you can for 10yds and then trun and run as fast as possible for 20yds. do this 10x a day.

VERY key Always attack the run from the outside shoulder of a runner aim for the farthest edge of the shoulder pad...Always attack a play form the outside in, over exaggerate to the outside when you are in the open field and coming up to tackle.

Stance weight slighly over knees bent over shoulders.....Practice drop steps and react steps starting from outside in.

Another good skill is to start of the sidline pick any horizontal line and backpedal keeping an eye on the ground beneath to see if you can backpedal in a straight line when you stop always run forward up to 3 yds at a 45 degree angle.

Get a friend to run with you and keep up with them hip to hip. Do not look at them just keep running hip to hip.

Good man to man skill using the hip to hip principle, practice having your friend extend his hands as if to catch a pass that is when you turn to look for ball. NEVER EVER turn outside to look for a ball if you are inside. If you are already outside then you should have help from the inside so you should not have to turn to look for the ball.

Do not look at the head when man to man look down at the hip with a peripheral to his face mask and hands when you see the arms extend then look for the ball by turning the head quickly and then back to the hands do not turn your body!!

Practice your back pedal is the main key I wish I can help you more but I played D-line and Fullback

Take note of the reciever's hips. They always tell you where he is going. Thats what I was taught by my father, when he coached.
