Look what Hip Hop legend LL Cool J had to say about Lil Wayne...

Features : LL Cool J: The AllHipHop Interview

AllHipHop.com: When you look back at when you came in and all the doors you’ve opened, who are some of the artists, besides yourself, that make you feel like it was all worth it?

LL Cool J: There are too many to name man. Off the top of my head, I think what Lil’ Wayne is doing is great. As an artist and just his overall work ethic is great. For him to consistently come up with that many verses and mixtapes and then what he did with the album, that’s great. All that speaks to his work ethic and success never rewards the wrong person. I’m happy for him.

Everybody talking about the same thing. Why am I gonna go buy a album from a cat that sound like the other 400 cats that are from here.

Yall talk about Kanye but he is different and creative. Yall talk about Wayne but he is different and his word play is incredible. And some of the cats yall name nobody has ever heard of because they are underground. LOL.

And Im 28 years old by the way and I never heard of a Immortal Technique. I was just in the Richmond today and I asked like 12 different cats about that person or group and everybody was like....WHO? LOL.

Whatever. Carry on.
the reason why Immortal Technique didnt go main stream was because he refused offers by major label companies. and i wouldnt blame him. underground is for political rap and hes a political rapper. makes sense. mainstream is more of a feel the beat, be happy, be a kid and have fun with your life sort of thing. i mean no disrespect or anythin pokeinrichmond but we all have our own taste in music. the main reason why you dont know who immortal technique is because you obviously dont listen to political underground rap. and this might seem random...but i think that you believe 9/11 was done by lemme guess... terrorists?

so a hip hop legend (LEGEND!? wtf!?) thinks lil wayne is good. krs-one and rakim was wrong i guess.

ey look man i mean this arguement was fun and everythin. but can we let this go? i mean we all have different views on this obviously. lets squash this before it gets too heated.

Dude, this is a forum. No reason for you to get heated. I can guarntee you Poke ain't pissed about anything. This is more of a debate, a conversation, not an argument. if your going to lose your cool, then just drop it and dont check the thread.

The rest of us have been talking about this subject like grown men. And that 9/11 comment, come on bro. Grow up. Thats ridiculous.

But yeah, your right about our "tastes"in music. I listen to both underground and mainstream. I listen to whatever sounds good to me. Whether if it's on MTV or not. People these days take underground so serious that the second they see someone on MTV they label them main stream and think that their music suck. I give evrything a chance because i love MUSIC as a whole. I don't care where it comes from, at all. I like what I like.

Being from the bay I'm a huge heiroglyphics fan, living legends, murs, etc. But i also like Lil wayne, Bun B, UGK, old E-40 etc..

I'm sick and tired of political rap. If I want politics, I'll listen to CNN. I don't wana hear about politics while I'm listening to music. I listen to music for entertainment.

And when I go out on the weekends I love songs that get the women going. There aint nothing with the lollipop song. It's just a rapper having fun. Some people are so stuck on the "gangster" hardcore hip hop persona that they cant give a song like lollipop credit. You dont gota like the song. Respect it for hwat it is. a Club bannger. A p u ssy poper. Women love that ****, so on the weekends and at parties , I love it too.

I think the one argument that no one has tried to dispell in this whole thread is Lil waynes respect. Go back and read my posts j33k.

No rapper since Pac has had this much respect from his PEERS than wayne. No one. The people who know more about music than you, me, or anyone on this damn site, call Waye "the King."

From people like Enrique Englesias, to usher, to kanye, to Jay Z. David Banner, Puff daddy, LL Cool j, etc... And thats just naming some. Whether you like him or not. Homeboy is on some **** that no other rapper has been on in over ten years. No one's came close.

Like i keep saying, I'm not crowning him the best alive, the best ever. NOTHING.

I'm giving reasons for why OTHER PEOPLE ARE. He's on a level where no one else has been on for over a decade.

Now whether he stays their it remains to be seen. All i'm saying is even if you dont like the cat give him some respect. Realize talent when you see it. Just because you dont like it doesnt mean hes not talented. He was crowned best MC in the game way before lollipop. So MTV is not an excuse for Wayne's success.

And it is still my opinion he is not the best rapper alive, contrary to Times magazine.

For sure..Hiphop is such a multidimensional genre, you cant really tell people what they should like or what is better than who. We all come from different places and classes and experiences. I grew up listening to straight up East Bay gansta **** when I was at my moms in Richmond with my sister. Spice1, CBo, IMP, 415, Richie Rich, Too Short etc...

When I was stayin at my pops on Berkeley, my brother was hittin me up on some KRS1, KMD, Camron, Nas, Naughty by Nature, Mobb Deep. More Eastcoast type ****..

When I moved out to East O, it was all 3x Crazy, Yukmouth, newer Richie Rich, Dre Dog (Nickatina), Mac Dre, Heiro, Saafir, Hobo Junction....

Now I'm older and I'm feelin more underground ****, and some mainstream..

Nas, Mos Def, Pharoah Monch, The Roots, Andre 3000, Cunninglynguists, Immortal Kombat, C Rayz Walz to name a couple..I aint gonna crown none of the **** i listen to as "best" ever or alive, but you aint gonna sit there and tell me its garbage.

To each his own...Turn the page

I cant ****ing believe that the Battle of the Bay preseason games is only 3 weeks away and Ill be there!!?!?!

Dude HUGE cunninglynguists fan here man. I caught them at a show promoting their first CD and i've been hooked since. Love southernunderground. SICK CD. Every song is off the chain.

Have they gotten bigger? I don't really know too many people who have heard of them.

But yeah, props man. Easily one of my top 3 "underground" groups.

Some cat at Amoeba Records in Berkeley put me on them cats. I have always loved the dungeon family products, from the Goodie Mob and Young Blood days and these guys came out slaying it. I think the Album was "A piece of Strange" or something..Since then I have been gettin all their ****..I like how their CD's come with instrumental disks..The production is straight up retarded..

yea. i guess ive said too much about lil wayne and havent credited him for the respect he's earned. i may not like the way he spits but the truth is. the majority does and i should respect that.

i guess i just got offended when pokeinrichmond implied that i was just another hater cuz trust me. i know the history of hip hop from the bottom up.

and yea i forgot that im in another forum cuz when i was at a (unnamed) message board everyone was so immature when everyone started talkin about wayne.
