Solution: Draft a QB and start Walter

I don't know if anyone else has posted this, and if they do I apologize. But wouldn't a solution to the dilemma of wondering whether or not to draft a QB just be to go ahead and DRAFT either Quinn or Russell, then START Walter?!??!

This way, we give Walter a legitimate shot under a new coach and a REAL offense, while also protecting ourselves from the unknown? He MIGHT be a bust, he MIGHT be great....so if he works out we have a tradeable commodity (our drafted QB), and if he doesn't we give the the #1 pick his shot.

Thoughts?

We can also either keep Brooks as our #3 (if he'll take a cut), or dump his ass and pick up a veteran #3 as insurance policy and maybe to mentor the #1 and #2.

Good idea, but if Walter pans out then haven't we then wasted a pick that could've gone on AP?

Yes, but if he DOESN'T work out we have Quinn or Russell to play QB. Right now, without having ANY IDEA whether Walter WILL or WILL NOT work out, we have to play it safe and do the right thing - draft a QB with the #1.

If we do it, and Walter ends up doing good, we're gonna have to trade him not the drafted QB. When you take a QB #1 overall you make a committment to him.

Not a bad thought...

I can see how you can say, let Walter play, let him show something, and develop, if he does, and shows somethin, that only improves his value for a trade etc., or we may find a franchise guy...if he fails, we bring in the #1 pick if it is Quinn or Russell...

Sorta like what SD did with Rivers and Bress, although Brees was a established guy, they eventually moved on though and gave the job to the young high draft selection as Brees bolted via FA.

I guess thats a feasible solution, but then again, if they draft a QB that high, I wouldnt mind seeing him in there right off the bat. But, I can see how you give Walter 4 to 6 games to start, bring in the next kid like Vince Young etc.

it would become a waste of the first pick if your going to start a young qb like walter, if you draft a qb basically you tell him he isnt the guy and he is just filling in until the draft pick is ready, and with Walter's fire and passion you can believe he wont be happy about it.

So long as we play our cards right we could get a number one for Quinn/Russell. I think the QB is that important, but I am a web developer not an NFL GM!
