I honestly don't think Brady's overrated, but I really don't think it matters anymore. Once upon a time Al Davis was brilliant. Everything he touched turned to gold. Then for whatever reason he started blowing drafts. No one forced him to draft Marinovich, so stop the "I'll never draft a qb in the first round again" nonsense! HE simply drafted the wrong guy. Just like HE drafted Gallery & Russell #2 in the draft. Truth be told the only winner Davis hired of late was Gruden, and for whatever reason he chose not to give him what he was worth & let him go. I think if we had Gruden, he'd draft Quinn, keep Moss & Porter & work with them, & use the rest of the draft on the offensive line. But we don't have Gruden. We don't have anyone willing or capable of telling Al he's wrong. How much of our glory years were really Wolf's doing? So my advice to all of you is don't give yourselves a heart attack over this. If you want to see a great Raider QB again, buy some of snake's old games on DVD. If you could tell me how a team with so many great offensive linemen coaching could have offensive linemen still not capable of picking up blitzes at the end of the year I'd love to hear it. But for those who's memory is poor, don't forget the Raiders did not win a division title from 1990-2000, when Gruden turned the ship around. By 2003 we were 4-12 again and have been lousy ever since Gruden left.

Dude , I know it's an open forum , but take a look at the other 40 threads right behind this one , you hardly add any new element to any open discssion at this point that warrants its own thread.

What young fans don't know is that Ron Wolf was pretty much in charge of the draft during the glory days. He left to be GM of Green Bay and immediately traded for Brett Favre and Reggie White.
I dont' think it's coincidence that the Raiders have drafted only 1 super stud offensive player (Tim Brown) in 20 years! Al Davis took all of the credit, but it was Ron Wolf that had the amazing ability to judge talent; eventually many think Wolf will be in the hall of fame. Brady Quinn's QB rating is 40 points less against top 20 teams, and he cant' handle a rush. |

Ice,
I'm curious as to what you would do at this stage. Since 2002 we've drafted quite a few offensive linemen; Walker, Rykert, Grove, Gallery, McMahon, Morris, Booth & McQuistan, and yet we struggle with simple blitzes. Let's assume we do trade down. Do we take the OT from Wisconsin, who scouts say doesn't have a mean streak? I would love to sign free agent Leonard Davis from Arizona, but rumor has it he's going to Dallas. I know Quinn has problems against top 10 teams, but in a way isn't this is the old argument where if he wasn't so good Notre Dame wouldn't even make a bowl game, so I'm willing to cut him some slack. We may never get another shot at a guy like this, and we have had some success drafting in the 2nd & 3rd rounds. There isn't a franchise defensive end in the entire draft, and given the Gallery fisaco I'd reallt hate to waste our draft trading down getting okay lineman be they offensive or defensive. What really concerns me is since 1990 we had a brief window of excellence-the Gruden era. We sucked before him and we've sucked since he left, and this is hands down the worst offensive team I've ever seen in Oakland! |
