What is the first pick worth?

If the Raiders trade down, here's what they could get in return:

http://www.theredzone.org/2005/draft...valuechart.asp

- Trading the first pick in the draft and moving down just three spots, to the fourth pick in the draft, could garner the Raiders quite a windfall. The first pick in the draft is worth the fourth and 12th picks in the draft.
- The first pick in the draft would be worth fthe ifth and 10th picks in the draft.
- The first pick in the draft would be worth the fourth pick, plus the 20th pick and the 23rd pick in the second round.
- Let's say that the Raiders traded the first pick to the team picking 10th in the draft. The first pick would be worth the 10th pick, plus the 10th pick in the second round, plus the 10th pick in the third round, plus the 16th pick in the next year's draft. . .in other words, it would be a Lawrence Welk type of a trade. . .a one and a two and a three. . .and another one.

All in all, if the Raiders decide that quantity (more picks) is worth more than quality (top pick), the team can reload in a hurry, much like SF did during the Bill Walsh era.

Of the teams picking in the top 10, the Lions (2nd?), Redskins (6th?), Texans (7th?) and Vikings (8th?) and Dolphins (10th?) appear to be most in the need of a QB.

I don't think that one player will make or break the Raiders next year. But several top picks could build this team for greatness for the next decade.

fck that teams that trade down almost always get screwed unless they trade down within the top five (eg SD did this twice) for the most part i rather just draft there i dont want to trade down to 12th or some ****

I agree about acquiring more picks and getting an extra one or two to help out...

But, Wash is set on Campbell being their QB, Houston may or may not on Carr, and the Vikings could go with J.Jackson. Miami is a mess right now at QB, and they wont bring in another high priced QB. Culpepper is in the plans there...

Detroit is the team in dire straights for a QB!

How about this:
1st overall selction of Raiders, to Houston for David Carr and their 1st rounder (7th overall)? Is it 7th? Maybe they want a QB (Quinn, Brohm etc.?) or RB (Peterson)?

David Carr would probaly cry. Its not like he hasn't been sacked enough in H-town. Im sure he would love to come play behind our very good O-line.

Very interesting. I am a fan of trading down right now. I do not see there being a LOCK first overall pick this year. If we can still get a top 7 pick and another late first rounder that would be pretty sweet.

I say play the draft like jimmy johnson !! trade down for a bunch of picks and say the 3rd pick ,then trade that pick for more picks until your around the 10th pick ..Trade moss and or porter .Hell that way we might end up with 3 or 4 first rounders next year ,maybe some vet o-line guys and a **** load of 2nd and 3rds this year !!! they say this is a deep running back,wr , draft .So why not ? besides if you remember s.d had the first pick not so long ago ,and look at them ..Hell I bet manning wishes he went there insted !!!
Why can't we do as good or a better job then the dolts did ?? bye the way !! I JUST WANNA GIVE MATT MILLEN A BIG "THANK YOU !! !! FOR MAYBE HELPING US OUT AT A TIME WHEN WE NEEDED IT MOST !!!

If they trade down the lowest they should go is fifth IMO. We need an impact player. Hopefully AD's stock isn't very high and we can trade down and still take him with the 5th or 6th pick like SD did with Tomlinson
