ART SHELL's DRAFT DAY INFLUENCE...

I was wondering what you guys think about the 2006 Draft, and the influence Art Shell will have on who we bring into Oakland. Al Davis said he hired Shell to bring back that Raider image that has been lost over the years. I think a lot of that has to do with the guys we've brought it. This year, just like every other year, there is plenty of guys entering the NFL who can help get this team to the next level. My question is this...

Do you think Art and Al will bring in some guys who are known for their tenacity and toughness on the field, as opposed to last years draft when we concentrated on speed CB's and possilbly our future in Andrew Walter? I think this year, considering our needs (DL, OL, Linebacker, Safety), it's a great year to bring in some big boys that can instill some fear in the opposition. What are your thoughts?

Let's bring in Mario Williams, I'm sure Burgess & Williams would strike plenty of fear into opposing QB's and would wreck a lot of havoc too.

if shell bring old raiders style and image, he will bring a vicious ss, a good te and some o-line players

if steelers was always recognize for there lb, the raiders in the past was recognize to have ss who hit very hard (tatum, atkinson, mcelroy, lott), also we usually have good te, (casper, chester, christensen), finally each time we perform well in the past it's because we already have a good o-line (shell-upshaw-otto) (mosebar, lawrence, wilkerson) (robbins, midleton,mo collins, kennedy)

so expect to see ss huff, og spencer and a good te

Im hoping we bring in AJ Hawk........The problem of getting Mario Williams is we desperatly need another OLB. I can live with Brayton playing DE opposite of Burgess, i cant live with him playing OLB with Clark and Morrison. A position he played this year, in which he has always played DE.

You are assuming we play D Burg in more than pass rush situations

Perhaps not, but Tommy Kelly can (and liklely will) start at end on first and second down. and Bobby Hamilton could remain. Neither have the potential of Mario Williams, but they - along with Brayton, who did show potential his rookie year - are adequate.
The same can't be said for whoever the Raiders have to lineup at OLB right now.

Unless he's a complete burner the team can wait to mid-late for a safety, a lineman able to make a difference every down on either side of the ball is a bigger item.

Williams or Young(USC) , Lutui and the Pitt G-t after that.

Cuuld see the team get three of its top 6 OL with the C they interviewed in the first 4 rounds.

Oh, the team cut a RB today as well, expect a signing or a trade this week.

With Gibson and CWood both on their way out, I'd be most satisfied with Huff as our first round pick. Sure, we drafted two CBs last year, but we're losing the two "starters" I just mentioned right out of the gate.

Gibson may be back, with a much smaller salary, but he hasn't been able to stay on the field the last few years due to injury anyway.

All this is basically worth jack until we see what free agency brings. Ultimately I'd LOVE to see the Raiders land Darren Howard somehow to play DE. That takes care of that weak link. Then we could take Huff in the first and go LB in the second and/or third. We could use a guard in there too, if we're not able to land one in FA.

I dont think people are taking our weak safties seriously, we need drastic help there. The only reason why LB is the bigger need per-say is because we only have like 2 lol. I really dont think we should get AJHAWK in the first, we should sign Witherspoon, get sam williams healthy, and maybe draft a lb in the 3rd. I dont know if Ko Simpson will be there in the second, but if he is yeah get him, if not then Huff in the 1st.

In my opionion It should be a safety or DE in the first. Or a safety in the 2nd.
