I definately agree on the Swancutt remarks!
We have an Oregon State undersized elephant DE currently on our roster: DeLwarence Grant and we've all seen how effective he is in a 3-4! That's a bit unfair to Swancutt in that i find it hard to believe anyone could lack the X-Factor like Grant does- but still, Swancutt is 6"4 260; nice depth/effort guy in a 4-3 but has very little place in a 3-4 unless he's athletic enough to play OLB (which he's not)... UC: 1. Travis Johnson... He's a player i really like the look of. He's got great size 6"5 290 and runs a 4.7! Most importantly, I can see him potentially excelling as a 3-4 DE... However my only concern with him, besides the fact he'd be a reach at #7 bar some amazing workouts(Al never trades down), is that he seems like a high risk/reward kinda player... Unlike Spears he is not a bonafide 3-4 DE and also unlike Spears he may not take to the position as soon as you'd like from a high/mid first rounder... 4-3 DT and 3-4 DE are very different positions (ask Sapp! )... DL's need a fair amount of maturity to man the position, as trying to accept that your sole priority is often not to get to the QB/runner first is a tricky one to take on board! As you know 3-4 DE's have to sometimes just take up blockers allowing the LB's to make the plays- Johnson has some character issues off the field which may indicate some immaturity there which is slightly worrying; how severe these character issues- i dunno...Similar to last year prospect outta FSU Darnell Dockett actually now i come to think of it... He has 4 sacks in a limited amount of playing time- productive rookie... Basically we want someone to man the 3-4 DE position and do a consistenly good job we trade down for Marcus Spears...If you'd prefer potentially the next Raider pro bowler bar our kickers go for Travis Johnson; he's a disruptive force fo sho, i just don't know if he'll cut it at 3-4 DE... 2. Blackstock... In my opinion he is the 3rd best OLB, 5th best LB available in the Draft which i suppose warrants a second rounder...However his stock has definately dropped in my books. He's 6"4 230lbs and runs a 4.7... i originally thought he was a perfect example of a player who plays faster than his stats project (a la Boldin, Harrison etc.) but i've heard (not seen personally- so i maybe wrong) from several different places/people that he's looked slow and almost lethargic in reacting to plays... He needs to shore up his run D no matter what, but at the same time (despite running a slow 4.7) he has a real knack for getting after the QB! Not what you'd call a complete player, but that doesn't mean he's not useful! Many say he's suited to the 3-4 OLB position but personally i can't see anything which defines him a 3-4 OLB from a 4-3 LB! Don't get me wrong he does show qualities similar to DJ which could see him excel in a 3-4 but at 230lbs he'll struggle to get off his blocks in a 3-4 and unlike DJ he doesn't have the kinda athletiscism to overcome that problem... Basically, you want an all-round LB who can get after the QB and play tough against the run then look towards Kevin Burnett (think Chad Brown potential)... Want a potential pass rush pro, solid tackler, nice situational player (think Roosevelt Colvin) look towards Blackstock... 3. Marcus Johnson... I gotta admit i don't know as much about this kid simply because i've focused on three main suitors at OG and a nice day 2 sleeper- Marcus Johnson should go late 2nd and may slip into the third depending on the success of Elton Brown, Baas etc. He's a solid looking player with great size and athleticism for such a big guy...He's versatille in that he can play RG or RT and was a team captain at Mississippi all good stuff on his resume... BUT 2 things bother me here; -Firstly, I rate fellow potential 3rd round prospects Kemoeatu and CJ Brooks above him, and second day man Dan Buenning not far behind! Kemo and Brooks are two of the nastiest players coming out this year=Raiders! Buenning is the technically sound OG who will always do a good job but like Marcus Johnson lacks the killer instict to pancake that DL/LB on a run (think Badger)... -Secondly, Marcus Johnson=Langston Walker!!! Versatille big guys that just lack that extra something to make them standout...In other words, we've already got a similar guy on the roster- Basically, you want someone who will provide good depth and maybe eventually fill in and stay in as starter look towards Marcus Johnson. Want a potentially dominant high risk/reward guy think Kemo... 4. Tyler King... Solid 2nd day guy but nothing more; I was quick to criticise Swancutt earlier as an undersized elephant DE... King is slower; he won't get to the QB consistently and nor will he excel in pursuit against the run; not even close to a 3-4 DE despite 6"6 frame... Although i could see him potentially being productive in a 4-3 at DE (Jared Allen?) i don't see him in S&B and believe we shouldn't even look in his direction until the 6th... Basically you wanna project who takes the shape of Tyler Brayton/Jared Allen then look at King... Want someone for a 3-4 on the second day look towards NT Albert Means, LB Kirk Morrison/Boomer Grigsby or maybe go for projects on offense like Frank Gore... UC, i hope i gave you a good idea..This is just my opinion remember!

Blackstock is a good prospect, but Im not really really high on him. Hes very athletic, has good size, and hes great at blitzing and getting to the QB, he takes real good angles to the quarterback. When I watched him vs Fresno State in their bowl game, he looked terrible. He had trouble shedding blocks and the only thing he could do right was get to the quarterback, but he didnt get a sack. I dont remember him getting a tackle (and yes, I know he switched his number before the game) Hes raw, but has a high ceiling, I didnt think coming out was such a great idea but hes one of the top LBs behind DJ and Merriman. Johnson finishes blocks, plays hard, and had a good senior bowl. Hes a bit of a OG/OT tweener with his size, but I love guys that play with heart, and I think he should be a good starting pro. Late first day is most likely his destination. Hes a mauler and his stock could propel him to the second round. I still like Fresno States Logan Mankins more, but Johnson is a good talent King- I got to watch a few UCONN games and King looked pretty good. He doesnt look too fast off the snap and is undersized. He seems to run hot and cold, and sometimes he looks invisible, other times he looks good. Id like to see more effort from him in the pros, but he could be a good backup and a solid second day pick.
