if NJB gets picked over Chapman, it'll only be because personnel guys are concerned about his medical.
his agent has come out and said Chapman will be ready by training camp, so for a team to use a 3rd rounder on him is a bit of a gamble.
i've noticed that things have changed in the NFL the last few years. most people viewed just the first two rounds as the instant impact rounds, but now teams are going deep into the 4th round and even later looking for guys who can come in and challenge for a starting spot.
Well, I just saw Alameda Ta'amu rocket up to #81 Overall on CBS.Sports, thought it was a bit of a pipe dream he would fall to #95, and it could still happen, but I think his stock is going to rebound over the next 10 days...there are some teams with a NT need who could take him in the mid-second round.
Here's a Mock Draft question because it's kind of critical to the Raiders' situation:
Are LB's Demario Davis, Josh Kaddu or Travis Lewis worth a #95 Overall pick? Or are we just reaching a bit based on need? Does that OBVIOUS need make it okay to take one of these guys maybe 10 or 20 spots early?

Should probably add Nigel Bradham to the list:

I don't think we should reach due to need. We get the BPA based on grades the scout team has set up. McKenzie said he looked at the history of picks each scout has made to see if they suck or if they nailed it. We should just go from the board like he stated we'd do.
When teams reach due to need they are doing a disservice to themselves IMO.

IMO it doesnt have to be LB..id prefer BPA on defense however i think reggie will stick true to his word and go BPA period...whether it ends up being a QB, RB,OL,LB, etc. i dont think it matters to him..in the end as long as the player turns out to be productive i think most will be happy..i can definitely see alot of members getting riled up though if reggie ends up taking a QB/RB/etc. basically one of the positions that most would consider were "set" at already..i dont know if this will be the best way but im willing to let reggie do his thing and give him at least 2-3 drafts and see how his players develop before i judge his methods..like i said though i can forsee alot of members getting upset with reggie during the draft if for instance every single pick ends up with an offensive player as the BPA when we select

Hard question to truly answer as we have no idea what Reggie's board will or does look like. They're board after the top 5 players could look nothing like the big boards of draft websites or other teams in the NFL.
Going of Drafttek's Big Board, just for the sake of argument, we would be reaching on any of those LBs you mentioned, with Kyle Wilber being the best value with him being ranked #98 best player. (Davis #104, Kaddu #108, Lewis #126, and Bradham #148) You also have to assume certain players/positions will fall farther down in the draft than thought and others will be overdrafted (QBs and probably NTs) because of perceived value and need.
Though to humor you with an answer I'd say only Davis, of that group, is worth the #95 overall pick.

here's the latest offering from Drafttek:
3rd Round: TE Dwayne Allen Clemson
4th Round: WR AJ Jenkins Illinois
5th Round: DT Jaye Howard Florida
5th Round: CB Coty Sensabaugh Clemson
6th Round: NT Ishmaa'ily Kitchen Kent State
don't like the Jenkins or the Howard pick. think that Jenkins is similar to Denarius Moore as a deep threat, and Howard is too much of an underachiever. otherwise, i like the other projections.
thoughts?
I agree with but would also add I don't really like the Sensabaugh pick, unless he's without a doubt the highest ranked player on Reggie's board a CB is far from a need at the moment. The Moore comparison for Jenkins is an interesting thought and I think they are similar in their ability to stretch the field and work underneath; both needed to add some muscle and overall strength coming out too.
Like the Allen and Kitchen picks though; I think Kitchen is a much better talent now and over-all prospect that NJB.

Also wanted to share this - Greg Cosell (Executive producer of NFL Matchup, Senior Producer NFL Films for 33 years, Co-author of The Games That Changed The Game) tweeted these questions, more rhetorical and thought provoking than anything, but I felt they tied in well with Ag's question earlier:
Greg Cosell @gregcosell
Now that everyone has predicted what their team's record will be, let's get back to the draft. My question: What's the goal of the draft?
Greg Cosell @gregcosell
It seeems to me one objective of the draft is to pick the best players for your team, players better than ones you currently have.
Greg Cosell @gregcosell
Player rankings, i.e., what round grade a player should get, is really a function of team + scheme to a large extent, isn't it?
Greg Cosell @gregcosell
Different teams will have players graded totally differently. It's why I never quite understood concepts of "overdrafted" + "it's a reach".
Greg Cosell @gregcosell
When you think about it, how arbitrary is it to say a player has a 3rd round grade? What does that mean? What's the context?
Greg Cosell @gregcosell
I think we all fit players into our own pre-determined categories + "grade" them accordingly, with little knowledge of teams' approach.
Greg Cosell @gregcosell
You could talk to 5 coaches about the same player + get 5 different points of view. I know. I've done it. Who's right? Is there a right?
Greg Cosell @gregcosell
Asked about player's stock changing re: workouts. Struggle with that. I'm a tape junkie. Want to see a guy play. Evaluate attributes.
Greg Cosell @gregcosell
Here's something rarely discussed. College + pro game different. I watch NFL tape, then college tape. Slow motion, even in best conferences.
Food for thought.
Yeah, I have a thought. That Draft scenario is total krap. We pass on OLB Bruce Irvin AND OLB Terrell Manning IN THE 5TH! That's total BS that we take Howard and Sensabaugh over either of those two. Remember what we said about Matt Conrath from UVA, well DraftTek is high on DT Jaye Howard from Florida as well.

Here is the latest from WalterFootball.com
3rd Oakland Raiders: Terrell Manning, OLB, N.C. State
If you click on Sean Spence's name and read his scouting report, you'll read a note from Charlie saying, "Oakland was showing a lot of interest in outside linebackers at the Senior Bowl." As it turns out, Terrell Manning is one of the top prospects on the board.
4th Oakland Raiders: Matt McCants, OT, UAB
It's a good thing the Raiders were awarded several compensatory picks because they have a ton of holes - some of which happen to be on the offensive line.
5th Oakland Raiders: Jonathan Massaquoi, DE/OLB, Troy
The Raiders lost two pass-rushers this offseason in Kamerion Wimbley and Trevor Scott. They'll need replacements.
5th Oakland Raiders: Terrance Ganaway, RB, Baylor
The Raiders need a power complement for Darren McFadden in the wake of Michael Bush's signing with Chicago.
6th Oakland Raiders: Alex Hoffman-Ellis, OLB, Washington State
More linebacker help for the Raiders, who have shown interest in this particular prospect.
