CLEVELAND -- The Browns have all but crossed off Michael Crabtree as a candidate for the No. 5 overall pick, said a source.
The Texas Tech receiver brought a diva attitude on his visit to the club facility last week and did not impress coach Eric Mangini and others, the source said. In fact, Crabtree was described by some in the building as "not nice." After Crabtree left, Mangini secured last-minute workouts with borderline first-round receivers Hakeem Nicks of North Carolina, Kenny Britt of Rutgers and Mohamed Massaquoi of Georgia.
that's actually not as big of a surprise to me as it may be to some Crabtree backers on this board. a few weeks back, ProFootballWeekly had a post that interviewed 5 high-level league executives on who were the riskiest picks in the first round. Crabtree, to my surprise at the time, came 2nd only to Percy Harvin who has since tested positive for mary jane. here's their take on Crabtree:
2) WR Michael Crabtree, Texas Tech (Soph.-3)
Crabtree may not have a laundry list of arrests, but his ego is abnormally large to the point where he repeatedly demeaned training staff, his work ethic has been described as "marginal at best," and his intelligence and ability to handle success remain major question marks. One thorough evaluator compared Crabtree's mental makeup to that of former LSU and Buccaneers 2004 15th overall pick Michael Clayton, who made a big splash in the NFL as a rookie before going on to average 31 catches, 378 yards and a half-TD catch each of the past four years as he lost focus, bought into the hype and stopped working at his craft the way young receivers must do to be great. Crabtree's competitiveness noticeably stands out on tape, and he did play through injury last season. However, when the Red Raiders were getting whipped by better competition (Oklahoma and Mississippi) during the final two games of the season, Crabtree did not finish either game. After he gets a taste of success in the pros, evaluators are not confident he will be able to handle the trappings of the pro game.

I'm not big on him N-E ways, I'd take Nicks or trade down for DHB or pick up Ramses Brden in the 3rd or 4th
I'm not big on Nicks either just FYI he gained like 20 pounds and he didn't finish a workout he had for an NFL team. Word on the street is that after like 10 routes he was already gassed. That is a huge red flag Nicks is getting fat and lazy not a good sign.
As for Crabtree I would say PASS because he's a system's WR. The guy played at Texas Tech so I would red flag any Tech WR right off the bat because Mike Leach loves to pass it 99.999% of the time. The Big 12 proved that they are a conference who can light up the scoreboard but they can't play a lick of defense. Crabtree has Charles Rodgers written all over himself an arrogant prima donna with a marginal work ethic who thinks he is the best WR since Jerry Rice.
No thank you I would take Jeremy Maclin the kid seems to have a good head on his shoulders and he has speed, speed and more speed. We need a speedy WR for Jamarcus to get the ball down field. We already have speed in the backfield with Run DMC and even Justin Fargas. The missing piece right now is a speedy WR and at least Maclin is not a pothead so Harvin is out. If the Raiders are smart they take Jeremy Maclin if they want to go WR.
That sounds exactly like what was said about Randy Moss when he came out. AGAIN RAMSES BARDEN WILL BE GONE BEFORE THE 2ND ROUND ENDS.
Ya except Crabtree is 6'1 3/8 and ran the 40 in 4.55 and Randy Moss is 6'4 and he reportedly ran a 4.25 on the 40. That is a huge difference my friend Crabtree does not = Moss at all not in terms of size or pure speed. I'm sure if you time the two now Moss would still outrun Crabtree like it's nothing.
BLAH BLAH BLAH that's such bull****...we'll see if they're right in a year or two. The kid can flat out play football, and has a clean slate without any record of teammates saying he was a crappy teammate. Soooo these guys can just shh...good for us if the Browns feel that way! I'm sure he's just trying to be a Raider and has talked **** to everyone except Al

if it is true about his work ethic and ego id say we shud pass. last thing we need is a young T.O. who thinks hes more important than anyone on the team to disrupt the chemistry we are trying to build here. if we do end i drafting him i hope this is all just BS
I have been saying pass on this guy for the last three months. we do not need another me first player. moss, porter, these types of players kiilled us in our past. Today on espn NFL live, I heard him talk about him self and I was left thinking," what an IDIOT". Istead of saying I or me, he would use his name, Micheal Crabtree is this type of player, Micheal Crabtree brings this to the table. He is not in the NFL yet and already he's a DIVA.

Wow, he's already starting that?

As I've said in my previous post he's a prima donna and he reminds me a lot of Charles Rodgers a few years back. No thank you to Crabtree we don't need another selfish WR.
