Will Raiders draft from the SEC in 2009?

Will we draft from the SEC for the third year in a row?

'07 JaMarcus Russell
'08 Darren McFadden
'09 ????????????????

Looking at some of the draft prospects there seems to be quite a few of the top linemen on both sides of the ball from the SEC: Tyson Jackson, DE (LSU), Al Woods, DT (LSU), Ciron Black, OT (LSU), Michael Oher, OT (Ole Miss), Andre Smith, OT (Alabama) and Sen'Derrick Marks (Auburn) to name but a few.

Michael Oher would be a nice addition to the OL.

I'd say it's very possible, especially one of the top LTs (Oher, Smith). Next year's draft should be loaded with top notch LTs

hopefully we pick up a lineman on either side of the ball. Looking at our roster right now i would go with an OT. DT might be just as big of a need but i think we need to protect Russell first. Also we have a lot of money tied up in our starting DT's. I think maybe we try for DT's in the later rounds but i could see us taking a DE with our first or second pick. I can't believe im talking about the 09 draft and the 08 season hasn't even begun.

I already like Andre Smith, he's got good speed for a guy that big and is said to have a great work ethic. Max Unger out of Oregon is more of a proto-typical ZBS OT though.

It would be nice if by some miracle Kwame Harris could hold down the LT spot. Then we could go for a DE or MLB (it will be a GREAT draft for MLBs), but that seems like a long shot.

Our backfield is straight down home country boys.

JaMarcus - LSU by way of Mobile, Alabama (Grew up about 45 mins from Ken Stabler's hometown)
McFadden - Arkansas by way of Little Rock, Arkansas (Oak Grove HS, about 1:20 from Stugartt)
Oneal - Arkansas State by way of Stugartt, Arkansas (Stugartt HS, about 1:20 from Oak Grove)
Bush - Louisville by way of Louisville, Kentucky
Griffith - Mississippi State by way of Sanatorium, Mississippi

I guess it's our Southern Strategy

Fargas is from Encino, which it technically in the south, but not quite the same.

Agreed. Oher, at this point in time, is my favourite pick, but we could trade up!

If we picked Oher, that would be 3 straight picks from the SEC Western Division.
