Oakland Raiders Grade: D+ ...
Mid-Term AFC Grades
Quote:
Oakland Raiders
Grade: D+
Passing on Glenn Dorsey could haunt them for years. Running backs, especially in a zone scheme like Oakland's, are too easy to find to invest a number four pick on. Especially when they are likely to split carries. He better be Adrian Peterson or the pick doesn't work.
Pittsburgh Steelers
Grade: B+
Willie Parker's fantasy owners may disagree, but the Steelers did well to go best player available in the first two rounds. They still need a lot of help on their lines, but ReShard Mendenhall is a true three-down back, and Limas Sweed was our favorite physical receiver in the draft. Pittsburgh's fine history of drafting helps win our favor here.
Cleveland Browns
Grade: A –
Sure they didn't actually select anyone Saturday. But Brady Quinn and Corey Williams are a pretty good haul for the first two rounds.
|
Why the post... Gregg Rosenthal is a moron. How do you punish the Raiders for taking a RB who will share carries then give the Steelers props for taking a RB in the 1st round even though they have a more proven back in Parker.
Not only that but HOW does he give the Browns an A- b/c of the players they got via trade and not even mention D. Hall?

WOW, some people in the media just kinda like to question everything that Al Davis does, give Cleveland an A even though they had no picks???????

Very Interesting 1 pick in 2 rounds and the Raiders get a D+ lmao. Remember last year when San Fran got a great grade by alot of people and see how that turned out.

Dmac has 1300+ yards and he is eating his words. People panned Houston for taking Williams in '06, but not anymore.
Also, I don't like the zone argument. If you go with Dorsey, then you can say our running game will be good enough. But in our system Dmac has the potential to rush for a lot of yards and add a dimension that no one on our roster last Friday could. The Broncos were only great when they had TD. Now, they lucked out and got TD late, but you can't count on that. The system didn't make TD, TD & the system were a deadly combo. A good zone team can make a mediocre back good, a good back great, and a great back elite. 10 to 1 says we have great or elite in Dmac.
My Grade. A
The Raiders could have addressed other needs, but with one pick in the first three rounds it was paramount to grab the best player available. And adding an all pro CB who is only 24 years old with your 2nd round pick ain't too shabby either.

I would give us an "A" so far. We got the best player in the draft at pick #4, and then with our second rounder got DeAngelo Hall. Best player in the draft and a top 3 corner in the league. Not bad if you ask me.

I think this is the best offseason from the Raiders that I have seen since before Gruden. It's time to serve notice onto the AFC West.

Gregg Rosenthal needs to crawl back under the rock he came from. Everyone knows you can't grade anyone for at least two to three years. Wait until D-Dawg is rushing all kinds of records in his first year.

Don't forget, before McFadden we had 4 running backs (Michael Bush, Dominic Rhodes, Justin Fargas, & LaMont Jordan). However, as of late it seems that either Dominic Rhodes &/or LaMont Jordan is on his way out. Dominic Rhodes's playing time was very short & Justin Fargas unfortunately can't stay healthy for a whole season. If both Rhodes & Jordan were let go, that would only leave us Michael Bush & Justin Fargas had we not picked McFadden.
As for giving the f*cking Steelers (a team who I absolutely DESPISE just so you now) a higher grade than us for picking Mendenhall, that is just plain stupid. Like someone said earlier, they already have Willie Parker & Davenport. Two RBs whom can play a full season & have been running the ball equally well.
In summary, Gregg Rosenthal can kindly take his lips that were on the Steelers' asses & kiss my Silver & Black ass.

Did the Vikings need a RB last year when they took Peterson? Nope.
Who cares for immediate draft grades anyways. The Raiders highest graded draft was the 2002 draft with PBrain, Nap Harris, Jolley, and Langston Walker and all those guys were gone after 5 seasons and it wasn't very productive in anything other than getting more picks down the road.
