RB DARREN MCFADDEN, ARKANSAS - Profile | Highlights
CZAR'S FRONT OFFICE TAKE: I guess Michael Bush doesn't look that good in practice. Darren McFadden was always the pick for the Raiders, who said they had enough running backs like Bush, who was injured last year. But McFadden has a chance to be better than Adrian Peterson, last year's rookie of the year, because he's also a super receiver. McFadden also threw for seven touchdowns at Arkansas. I don't think there is a question of his character, either. McFadden has 4.3 speed and can run inside and out. This is the kind of player who can help JaMarcus Russell, last year's No. 1 pick. The Raiders were talking with the Saints about swapping picks and moving to No. 10 overall, but weren't that interested in the compensation. It was surprising that the Raiders passed on Glenn Dorsey because defensive tackle is a definite need and apparently head coach Lane Kiffin won a minor battle because he was not high on selecting Ohio State DE Vernon Gholston with this choice.
SCHRAGER ON THE SCENE: A fantastic clash between two nutjob fan bases here at Radio City, as the Raiders Black Hole faithful goes wild and the Jets Gang Green-ites give a collective look of deep sorrow. I look for the mustachioed Jet fan dancers from a pick earlier, and discover a morbid sight. Their hands are over their faces. Utter disbelief and sadness, like someone just kicked their dogs. McFadden hoists up that #1 silver and black jersey and it just looks right. He joins Justin Fargas, Dominic Rhodes, Lamont Jordan and Michael Bush in the Raiders backfield, where he'll team with JaMarcus Russell for an SEC 1-2 duo in Oakland for years to come. Might as well move their games to Saturday and have Verne Lundquist do the games.
