Another Mock Draft - Kelly - Slaton

http://collegefootball.rivals.com/co...asp?CID=749667

What's interesting with this mock is that Slaton, Kelly, and Ellis are taken only a couple of picks after us.

What about the notion of 'reaching' for either one of those three if we're in the 6th or 7th spot?

Personally, I'd want to target Kelly. Big on him and McFadden.
But there's also Slaton to consider if we miss out on McFadden.
Or imo, taking Kelly in the first and Kevin Smith in the second.
If we take Slaton in the first we miss out on too many WRs by the second.
But Kelly the top of the crop and would suit being taken around the 7th spot, and Smith imo is a top RB prospect that would suit going in the 2nd.
If we take DT first, like Ellis, we miss out on the WRs by the second.

I don't understand your logic about missing on WR's in round 2?

Like I said in another thread....
Possible choices imo....

McFadden-Bowman
Kelly-Smith
Ellis-Smith/Bowman
Slaton-Bowman

If we miss out on McFadden, which is likely, then you still gotta think RB.
You either take Slaton then Bowman.
Or Kelly-Smith.
Or Ellis (DT)-Smith/Bowman.

Personally, if McFadden is off the board...

'Reach' for Malcolm Kelly in the first and take Kevin Smith in the second.
'Reach' for Sedrick Ellis in the first and take Adarius Bowman in the second.
'Reach' for Sedrick Ellis in the first and take Kevin Smith in the second.
'Reach' for Steve Slaton in the first and take Adarius Bowman in the second.

Then I'd look at FA's or trades like B. Johnson, R. Williams, B. Berrian, Chad Johnson, L. Fitzgerald.

I say we trade down and grab a 3rd in the process.

After trading down a few spots we must grab a playmaker on the offensive side of the ball, I don't care if it's RB or WR but it must be one of the two.

The second round must be used on a RB or WR as well. What's the point of drafting a QB if you're not going to put any weapons around him. It's a great time to draft players who can grow along side Russell.

Now I'm sure plenty of you out there want a DT or DE, and it's easy to come to that conclusion, but a good offense can essentially become a good defense. One DT or DE is not going to make this defense become great all of a sudden, but one WR or RB could make our offense become pretty damn good, good enough to keep our defense off the field. Tommy Kelly will be coming back, and if we do receive a 3rd rounder we'll be able to pick up a solid DE or DT later on in the draft.

I'm sick of this inept offense - I want to see Kiffin's offensive mind put to use with some playmakers to make it happen. Give me Kelly, Bowman, Hardy, McFadden, Slaton, I don't care - just some people that will at least give us some hope to score 20 a game.

The type of wideouts we need will be available in later rounds: speedsters and yac guys. Only wideout worth taking in round one is desean jackson.

What do you guys see in Desean Jackson ? I just look at him as another Ted Ginn Jr in which I don't want cause he doesn't impress me all too much

I agree of course with your post.
There are many out there who would also agree with us.
I like the idea of trading down a little and getting a third rounder AND picking up a Wr/Rb in the first like Kelly or Slaton.
If we're 6, trade down to 8, say, where we still take Kelly if we were confident other teams weren't gonna take him.
However, you could also just play it safe and take Kelly anyway.
And to recoup a 3rd and 5th rounder, trade whoever you have to in our current roster to get them.

Kelly will be the top-rated WR.
Kelly is a ball-shark.
Kelly still stretches the field.
You can still get Kelly in the first and a speedster in the 6th.

I see Jackson the same way, a Tedd Ginn Jr.
Kelly is the best of the crop imo.
So Kelly-Smith or Slaton-Bowman type choices first and second round.
My ideal....Kelly-Smith.

We should seriously and I mean seriously look at Ellis first then if he's taken before we pick then take Kelly in the 1st. He's a great prospect.

I'm not opposed to that idea either. Ellis-Bowman or Ellis-Smith.
Tho, if we could trade for an experienced and still good DT, t
