
The Zone Blocking Scheme (ZBS) is nothing new in Oakland. It was first used when Tom Cable arrived as O-line and Head Coach from ’07-’10. Contrary to popular belief, it’s been present for the last two seasons as well. Like most NFL teams, Hue Jackson’s Raiders used a lot of inside and outside zone, then mixed in tosses, draws, counter trey and power.
So the arrival of new Offensive Coordinator Greg Knapp doesn’t exactly re-introduce the Raiders to the scheme, but rather boil it down to it’s roots. Knapp comes from the Mike Shanahan branch of the coaching tree.
