Too many or too few threads per topic?
Wish i could start a poll on this.
From another post, agree or disagree:
One change that might help is changing the strict thread system. Too many people in one tight place likely breeds many of the problems. Spread it out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I believe the following would help attract and keep more thoughtful Raider fans.
Have separate forum pages for players, coaches, and other topic types.
A GUI page would be necessary to help navigation to such pages (a contest to design the GUI might be helpful). Some sort of changing display on the GUI (# of posts or flag for news) to help guide us to hot threads would be essential, otherwise, hot topics and breaking news might go unnoticed or be too hard to find quickly.
In other words, if you want to discuss
individual offensive players, you have a page for that, and threads for each
individual defensive players, you have a page for that and threads for each
individual coaches, you have a page for that and threads for each
upcoming games,
past games,
Coaches,
Offensive strategy, (would have been huge this year)
Defensive strategy (zone vs man, blitz vs conservative, etc),
Owner,
Etc.
For example, I recently wanted to discuss the rookies on the OL, not the veterans. That thread was merged into the entire OL thread. I would have liked that thread to be kept alive until the end of the season, without having to go through Sims sucks, Gallery sucks, and Walker sucks posts. Naturally, the threads were merged and many pages were gone.
Having one thread per star player makes the thread too jumbled and disorganized. It’s like going to the supermarket and finding all the apples in one bin. Delicious mixed with Macintosh mixed with Granny Smith, etc. There’s too much mixing apples and oranges.
Moss, for instance, could have a thread about how he looks as a player, who he could be traded for with what salary cap implication, and he could be included in a general WR’s thread for comparison.
Our QB’s should have had a page this year. Most all the Brooks threads got loads of hits and posts. I had a stats thread, a “come from behind” thread, and several others that led to some thoughtful discussion, in spite of the trolls. It was too disruptive to mix them together.
Was Rich Gannon limited to one thread? If so, wow.
More specific threads would be helpful for reference as the season goes on, and they’d be easier to find, too.
News articles should be integrated into the appropriate threads to move them next to the relevant topics.
The threads would last longer. Naturally, there are some topics that develop slowly, over a season, such as how Nnamdi’s technique is developing game to game.. A thread on the Offensive players page, or the WR’s page could track his game to game progress. A thread on how we do when we’re in a zone pass defense could last on the defensive strategy page.
Yeah, Jano, Shane and the special teams could support a page, but it would not be the hot topic every week. A thread on Jano’s injury would eventually vanish, while an analysis of his performance would stick.
Hmmmmmmm. How about a page for suggestions and gripes? Come on, that alone could make this one of the biggest sites on the internet ;) lol.
I know this is a pipe dream, as the programming challenge might be prohibitive.
Sorry for any mistakes. Got tired of proofreading this.

Sure could use simplifying and some helpful icons. The icons on the left are meaningless to the casual user. It takes way too much reading to understand the topics on that page.
Not trying to be overly critical, the site has an immense ammt of stuff on it, but for the user who's just here for the discussion, you quickly forget where the index is, and then it's a lot to digest for a quick comment.
The topics are about in the same font size as the subheadings, i.e.
Everything Else - Sponsored by:
is in the same size font as
Graphics Forum (3 Viewing)
Judging by the number of hits, the “Oakland Raiders Forum - Message Board” should be 10x larger than everything else, except maybe for “Everything Else”, which I never saw before.
And under “Raider Forums” you have a market, a *******, and videos.
Overall, not sorted so it’s easy or inviting to use.
Again, I’m not doing the work so I really can’t complain. You just got to understand why casual users or people who were lucky to get to one section they like don’t find where they were supposed to post things.
FYI, I’ve been around computers, hardware, software, even sub-component level (you know, the things that make up the transistors inside the 100,000 transistor computer chips) since 1982. I’m no computer novice.
I’ve been a hardcore message board (non-sports) user for over 10 years.
I understand running this site can be daunting. You gotta understand it’s not all that easy to use, either.

BTW, I posted on the other forum because there was that poll on what the Raiders and what RF.net should do, and the next thread I went to had 10 comments on too many threads being created, Stu was banned, etc.
It just seemed the right post to make at the right time.
