THE BLACKHEART SHOW and today I sit down with our own RFN member Kyh0mpb
Posted 06-24-2008 at 07:30 AM by BlackHeart
Whats up RaiderNation
Like I said before I'm also going to start to do some Q&As with some of our own fellow RFN members to get their take on whats going on with the team we all enjoy the Oakland Raiders and my first victim...LOL I mean guest with me today is Kyh0mpb so I welcome him so lets get right into it.
BlackHeart-When did you become an Oakland Raider fan ?
Kyh0mpb-I was pretty much born into it. Both my mom and dad were Raiders fans, and we were original season ticket holders when the Raiders came back to Oakland. Ever since I can remember I have watched the Raiders with my dad. Growing up in the bay, you have your Raiders fans and Niners fans. Now, most of the Niners fans I went to school with weren't very knowledgeable about their team or football, so it quickly became known that I wasn't the person you wanted to get into a football debate with. My hatred for the Niners only made my love for the Raiders increase actually haha. I was about 12 when I got hooked, and found myself checking up on what's going on in the Raiders world every day during the summer. 7 years have gone by, nothing has changed. I still do the exact same thing almost every day. I go to college in San Diego now, and I wear a Raider jersey at least once a week, and Chargers fans don't say **** to me. However, Raiders fans always will say what's up to me, shout somethin to me, and it really makes you realize how big the Raiders really are.
BlackHeart-How do you like the offseason so far when it comes to the new additions ?
Kyh0mpb-I like all the new additions we have made so far. I am more of a glass half-full guy, so the way I see it we are adding talent. I am also not the guy writing the checks, so the exorbitant contracts really aren't much of a concern for me. My favorite additions are Gibril Wilson and DeAngelo Hall. Those are two of the best players at their positions, and they should help our defense immediately. I also like all the competition we have brought in for the defensive line. The only thing I think we are missing is a huge DT, like Grady Jackson, to rotate in and eat up the middle. I like the Javon Walker signing, and I am of the opinion that he hasn't done anything wrong, and I hope he recovers in time for training camp. I hope Tom Cable can continue to improve this offensive line, but it is obviously going to be a run-first offense, which will benefit everyone. Hopefully Kwame Harris can develop his pass blocking, and hopefully D-Mac provides the game-breaking ability that we all knew him from in college.
BlackHeart-How do you like being apart of one of the best Raider forums on the Net?
Kyh0mpb-It is awesome. There are so many different opinions, so many different people with knowledge on every topic Raider-related. This website really is the whole package, I have to commend BK. I am more of a reader than a poster, I like to post only when I have something that I feel needs to be said. But I always catch myself on page 15 of a "Insert Raider-related Topic Here" thread, reading post after post, and I enjoy all of it. I used to post on several different forums, but now I really have no use for any of them, since Raiderfans.net has become so diverse. I haven't been a member for that long so I haven't had a chance to make it to any of the events, but I look forward to meeting the whole RF.net family sometime in the future!
BlackHeart-Who is the best RFN member you ever had a good debate with on here ?
Kyh0mpb-I'm a big fan of people who voice their opinions in their posts. I don't like seeing the same old posts over and over, agreeing in 3 or 4 words. I also like when people bring personality to their posts. With that being said, I appreciate what guys like _gg_, Poke, Mykle, New Jerry, and you too Bh, bring to their posts. There are many more, but those are just some guys off the top of my head who I make sure to read what they're saying.
BlackHeart-If you can be the owner of the Oakland Raiders whats the first thing you will try and do ?
Kyh0mpb-Just try and put together a winning team. First off I would make sure Kiffin stays around. I like Kiff, and I think he needs a couple more years to bring us back to respectability. I can't take anything away from Al Davis, he IS the Raiders. I hope he makes the right moves, and the moves he has already made help this team get back on top. I would also hire whoever scouted the 2001 Miami Hurricanes football team. Whoever scouted that team should be a head coach, because that is probably the most stacked team in college football history. Too many players from that team went on to the NFL to become superstars. The Raiders don't always have the best drafts as we all know, so some good talent evaluators would be a great asset to this franchise.
BlackHeart-Which NFL Team you love to hate ?
Kyh0mpb-Like I said, going to school in San Diego, I love to hate the Chargers. I usually say that they are the least hated of our other 3 division rivals, but being in San Diego and seeing all the fans with the LT, Gates, Rivers jerseys, it just makes me hate them even more. BTW, everything that is said about Chargers fans being bandwagoners, 95% of the time it is true. I have met thousands of Chargers fans, none of them were fans before LT. It is ridiculous, but it allows for so much more smack talk from yours truly. I will consider this season a true success if we beat the Chargers at least once.
BlackHeart-You call yourself a glass half full guy does that also mean that your blinded by what is really wrong with the team or that you really see improvements and a better future coming ?
Kyh0mpb-To be honest with you, I like the direction our team is headed. Every year I try to come in optimistic, but with realistic expectations. The only year I thought I saw good things coming was Norv's 2nd year, I thought we'd build on the first. Then the season started, and I realized how wrong I was. The Art Shell hiring was a mistake from the start, as soon as I heard we were implementing the 7-step drop I knew we were dead. But with Lane I see something we really haven't seen since Gruden. He is young, a keen offensive mind, and he wants to win. You can tell by the way he talks about the team. The key to turning this around is stability, and that starts at the head coaching position. If we can keep Kiff as our coach, then I see this team returning to respectability soon. With the additions we have made this offseason, this team is getting the talent that it needs. I also remember a post someone made about this team having a lot of southern swagger, and I think that is a good thing. Swagger is something we have been missing for awhile. So yes, with some continuity and a favorable schedule, I think that all the pieces have been put together to add up to a much brighter future for us in Oaktown.
BlackHeart-Ok, How many wins you see us getting this coming season ?
Kyh0mpb-I think that 8-8 is a definite possibility. If we come out of the gates 3-1, I think we set up our season for at least 8-8. The schedule is very favorable this year, and we have made some additions that I think will help a lot on the field on Sundays. The key is to come out of the gates hot. If we win 3 of our first 4, we could easily catch fire and ride that momentum til the end of the season and catch a wild-card birth. However, realistically, 8-8 is what I am hoping for, and I think Kiffin stays if we get anything higher than 6. The Raiders' biggest problem has been closing games. We have lost too much in years past that it's almost as if this team does not know how to win; they go into cruise control late in games, and it hurts us. The past 2 seasons we have lost way too many games that we had a lead in the fourth quarter. This year, if we can close out those games, we will see a much improved year.
Alright thank you Kyh0mpb for your answers and telling us about some of your Raider experiences and hopefully your predictions
about the team will come true for you.
I'll also like to thank everyone who leaves comments and take the time to read my Q&A
blogs and my Charger Q&A was actually the most looks and comments I have got so far so again thanks for that.
For my next interview I will be going one on one with a Miami Dolphins fan and get his take on Josh McCown, Raiders offseason and Culpepper's revenge game from last year so stay tune for that went you check out....
