Al Davis - The most passionate owner in professional sports...

As a common fan, sometimes you only see what the media shows you and unfortunately, you miss a lot of what goes on behind the scenes. Say what you will about the Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis, but I know for a fact that the past five-seasons bother him more then any fan! It's been a rough stretch, but I commend him on always trying to do what is best for the team. Regardless of his age, this man is still sharp as a tact!
Here's a man that sold part of the Raiders franchise this past year, and instead of keeping that money in his pocket, he reinvested in his business. He went out and signed players that will hopefully help turn this team around.
I attend most games throughout the year and sometimes I happen to stay at the teams hotel. I couldn't begin to tell you just how many times I saw Mr. Davis struggle as he walks through the hotel lobby with his walker, takes a good look around and sees a large group of Raider fans. Instead of behaving like a typical owner, Mr. Davis stops and talks to the fans. His response is sincere and genuine when he addresses the fans and even apologies by saying sorry for the product that takes the field every Sunday. We will right this ship and get back to our winning ways soon!
I personally have the utmost faith in Mr. Davis, regardless as to what the past 5-years have been like. I know that what he preaches will reign true again!
GO RAIDERS!!!

Nice info. Yeah it's hard to bag on Al when he stops to talk to the fans. Perhaps all of this is past him, doesn't mean I have to dislike him. Maybe he has one last hurrah in him, I hope.

I couldn't agree more.
Davis doesn't get credit for helping usher the League to its current popularity and for breaking ground in race relations and innovating many aspects of the game and the board room. Lets hope this year is the beggining of a raider resurge and a start for a play off run by 2010. |

Nice write up BK, I wouldn't want to have the Raiders without Davis.
