I have mulled over the passing of Gene Upshaw for the last day or so, and I have listened to the different takes on his life and legacy. As a player, he had no equal. As an administrator of the directives of the Players Association, he has been both villified and praised. I don't think there is much more that can be offered on those issues. He was great in his time next to Shell, and he impacted the game significantly as an exec, for good or for bad.
Well, I was there, I saw it all. I never left the seat as we saw the new generation of Raiders hit the field and here is what I saw
QB's: Russell was still being held back a bit, but he had some nice roll outs, and threw some very nice passes. I only saw a couple mistakes from the big man, but ultimately he outplayed Young and made some beautiful passes. Walter still looks very good, and will not only be a good back up but will rekindle thoughts of the days he was a projected...
Hello once again, sports fans. While my partner will cover the last two preseason games (as far as I know) I will take on the daunting task of covering the battle of the bay and Oakland South (Nashville), since I was able to see both games, or will see the second one, or...never mind here are the thoughts:
So we already knew we were gonna be tough with the run, and we already knew we were suspect in the passing game, and there were concerns about stopping the run...and the penalty...
Well, Hitman and I have had scheduling issues with the blog, but this week I will tackle the subject of the new offense, and, scheduling permitting, HItman will take on the defense next week...so, with that, here it is:
Offensively the Raiders are now more uncertain than in recent years. In the past, the consensus was that the offense was just plain bad, but that is not as easy to access these days. So, a run down is in order:
Folks, welcome to the first edition of Questions from the Easy Chair with Hitman and Attyla. We plan to post this blog every Friday throughout the season to give you our insights into the team we all love. Today, we introduce the first ever questions as we present:
Tales from the Easy Chair with Hitman and Attyla
Q: Considering our picks of Shields, Scott and Schillens in particular, could...
On April 26th, 2008 the NFL held its annual rite of passage as college hopefuls transition from unpaid athletes to millionaires during a grueling two day marathon of drafting by pro teams. The event, held in the sports Mecca of New York started at 3:00 PM and the first two rounds concluded about 6 hours later.
With the fourth pick in the draft, and no other foreseeable first day pick, the Raiders would have to make that one pick count. And according to many draft analysts they did...
With only two days left before the draft, the Raiders are literally 20 minutes from being on the clock. After last year's fiasco of having over two months to select, negotiate, and sign a deal with their guy, the Raiders instead did the same thing in 6 months and ensured themselves that JaMarcus Russell would hold a clip board all year, doing so at a $625,000 a game. Not a bad job if you can get it.
This year, the Raiders do not have the luxury of that first pick and the time to...
With the end of March in sight, the annual passage to NFL manhood begins as teams jockey for position in preparation for the NFL draft. As a message board junky, I can tell you that the passion fans have for the draft may be at an all time high as teams are literally being bombarded by the strong opinions of the fans.
On this site alone, not a day goes by without at least a couple new draft threads. Informed fans continue to express their desires for the selection the Raiders possess...
It may sound funny, but Raider fans will soon be lobbying to have Lane Kiffin's face plastered on milk cartons around the bay area. His absence from pretty much every activity since the close of the season has begun to make a weary nation a bit edgy.
As of right now, the sightings of the coach have been limited to a brief stop at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis, and the Senior Bowl. In both instances, he was reported to be dressed generically rather than in his Raider gear. That...
Today, the modern iron man of football hung up his cleats. He says he just does not have it in him to trudge out there for another year. Opinions about that are flying around the net at light speed as everyone with a keyboard and an thought are taking shot after shot at the real reason for his departure. You have heard everything from an apethetic Green Bay front office to the lack of a true playmaker at wide reciever as the reason. You have heard that he cannot stand the cold, and you have...
